The brother of a man found dead in a ship channel shoots his mother and kills her fiancé in Houston, police say.

Stephen Burks was arrested and charged with murder and aggravated assault, according to police and court documents.

HOUSTON — The brother of a man who was found dead in the Houston Ship Canal in November is accused of shooting his mother and her fiancé in west Houston early Friday, according to reports. Houston Police Department.

Stephen Burks, 27, was arrested and charged with murder and aggravated assault, according to police and court documents.

The twin shootings occurred just after 00:30 a.m. at a house on Bingley Drive off Gentryside Drive just north of Westheimer Road.

Police said they were called home after Steven’s mother called 911 and said she needed help because she had been shot multiple times.

When the police arrived, they said they found her fiancé unconscious in the courtyard of the house. Police said she was found hiding in the living room after several shots were fired.

The police later found Steven sitting outside on the patio of the house. He was taken into custody and charged in connection with the shooting.

“Our suspect had a history of mental health problems,” said Police Lieutenant R. Wilkins. “They thought he was behaving strangely today. Somehow he got hold of a gun.”

It is currently unknown what led to the shooting.

Stephen Burks’ brother, Delano Burks, was found dead in the Houston Ship Canal in November, almost two weeks after he disappeared.
