The late Salinas leads inductees into the Coastal Coaches Association Hall of Honor

After helping establish Coastal Bend as the centerpiece of high school baseball at Moody and Miller, as well as influencing the region, the late Hector Salinas led four inductees in the class of 2022 of the Coastal Bend Coaches Association Hall of Honor.

Salinas’ wife Thelma and son Orlando accepted the honor on his behalf Sunday at the annual CBCA Hall of Honor banquet at the Al Amin Temple, joining former Odem and Carroll coach AJ Martinez, former Three Rivers and King coach Eddie Hesseltin and Jose Carrillo. , who spent 40 years at various stops including San Diego, Robstown and Alice.

The overarching theme of all four performances was to make an impact on players, coaches and students off the playing field.

Martinez, now athletic director of the Collegiate Interscholastic League; Hesseltine, currently Superintendent of ISD Orange Grove; and Salinas, who served on the boards of Del Mar and CCISD, all moved into school administration after serving in the field.

Bishop’s head football coach Rigo Morales was also awarded Caller-Times Football Coach of the Year in South Texas.

The banquet rounded out the 2023 Coastal Bend Trainers Association Clinic Weekend, when the organization hosted trainers and guest speakers at the Omni in Corpus Christi.
