Things to do in East Texas this weekend

The weekend is almost here. If you’re looking for things to do, check out this list of things to do in the Tyler Longview area.

First weekend of 2023, a concert presented by the New Texas Sinfonia, Friday at 7:30 pm and Saturday at 3:00 pm, First Presbyterian Church, 230 W. Rusk St., Tyler. The concert will feature music for string orchestra and harp. Tickets: $30 for adults, free for students and children. Fiddle Zoo for Kids, Saturday 10:00 am to 11:30 am, First Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall, 230 W. Rusk St., Tyler. This is an “instrument zoo” event that includes music-themed games and activities, orchestra stories, meet and greets with New Texas Sinfonia performers, live performances, and a giveaway for concert tickets. Saturday Comedy, Saturday, 8:30 pm, comedy Rose City, 117 W. Front St., Tyler. Doors open at 20:00. Cast: Mark Pugh, Miles Francis, Ryan Rogers, James McCloud. Hosted by Benjamin Neely. Tickets: $15 in advance, $20 at the entrance. Information: https://rosecitycomedy.club/.

First FridayFriday, 11:00 am, Tyler Museum of Art, 1300 S. Mahaon Ave., Tyler. Guided tour of selected exhibitions. The entrance is free. Information: https://tylermuseum.org/.

Sit back with a day of reading, Saturday 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, Longview Public Library, 222 W. Cotton St., Longview. Families can drop by anytime, grab a few books, and spend the day reading together in the Moeschle meeting room or in the children’s section. Special activities throughout the day include: at 10:00 a.m., the Boy Scouts of America will read stories aloud to children; 11:00 a.m., community partners and volunteers from the city of Longview join for reading time; 12:00, hugs and snacks; 13:00, ETX Paws For A Cause therapy dogs will be available for children to meet and read stories to them.
