Two dead, eight injured in Sunland Park crash

SUNLAND PARK – Deputies are investigating a crash that killed two people and injured eight over the weekend.

The Sunland Park Fire Department said in a social media post that emergency responders were called to the Pete Domenici Highway near Mile 6 around 11 p.m. Jan. 8. First responders found that two men were already dead and eight other passengers were injured.

According to the Sunland Park Fire Department, two people were taken to a hospital in the El Paso area and remain in critical condition. Rescuers took the other six to the same hospital to be treated for less serious injuries.

The Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.

According to a Facebook post by DASO, deputies believe the driver was driving east “at high speed” when the car crashed into a cement barricade.

This is an evolving story.
