Tylerite and local American Idol star Fritz Hager III have released a new song for fans.
Hager, who finished in the top five in the 20th season of the National Vocal Competition, released his new single “Caroline” last week.
From a security guard who played guitar at local coffee shops to a homegrown national superstar, Hager looks to a new year of opportunity.
“This song marks the start of an amazing year,” Hager wrote on his Instagram page, “and the first big step in this crazy journey that you guys have allowed me to take.”
The song was brought to life by co-writing with Drew Pearson and fellow alum Francisco Martin and Hager himself.
“With my first single since Idol, I felt like I had the opportunity to experiment and fine-tune my sound,” Hager said in a press release. “I think Caroline is the culmination of that. Whenever I write, I try to play with the relationship between comedy and tragedy and find the best balance for each song.”
Inspired by season 11 winner Phillip Phillips, the Tyler native put together his guitar to audition for the Austin singing competition.
His indie pop sound kept him in the competition until he hit the top five in the show’s 20th season.
Following the conclusion of American Idol, Hager returned to his hometown of Tyler for his homecoming as well as the Rose City Music Festival, where he performed as the opening act for headliners Nelly and Koe Wetzel.
While on American Idol, Hager released the original song “Hearts Align” and performed with fellow Idol contestant Leah Marlene and winner Maddie Poppe on a summer tour.
This fall, he also embarked on the “Don’t Blink” tour with other Idol alumni.
As the tour concluded in December, Hager informed his social media followers that he had moved to Nashville.
Hager’s new single “Caroline” can be streamed on multiple platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music and Tidal.
