United Way of Hunt County to install mobile showers to help local homeless population

Mobile showers for people who may live outside are expected to be operational next week.

United Way of Hunt County, as part of its Local Love for Local Impact campaign, is partnering with Streetside Showers and Authentic Life Fellowship to provide mobile shower service in Greenville.

“Estimated time of arrival is 9:15 a.m. Wednesday,” United Way of Hunt County Director Natalie Pegg said.

Beginning Wednesday, a mobile shower trailer will be located at the Authentic Life Fellowship, 1914 Joe Ramsey Blvd. E, and will be available from 10:00 to 14:00 to offer showers, hot meals and hygiene products to those in need.

Showers will be available every Wednesday, unless temperatures drop below 35 degrees or there is lightning, Pegg said.

The trailer-shower is equipped with three shower/basin/toilet stations, each of which is designed for 20 minutes for a maximum of 40 people.

Citizens will also receive new socks, underwear, hygiene products and hot meals.

The United Way of Hunt County is seeking financial donations from companies, individuals, churches, groups, and others by mail: PO Box 224, Greenville 75403 or online at Unitedwayofhuntcounty.org.

Donations for food are also being sought, as well as volunteers to help distribute food and hand out hygiene items.

Hygiene items such as new sleeveless socks, underwear, bath towels, soap, shampoo and conditioner, and shaving products can be dropped off at the Henson Building, 2411 Wesley St., Greenville.
