The University of Nevada, Reno Honors College invites members of the university and the local community to celebrate the university’s 60th anniversary honors program with a keynote speech by nationally recognized educational and technology innovator Bob Davidson on February 9 at 6:30 pm.
A speech titled “The Politicization of Science” will be held at the Milt Glick Ballrooms of the Joe Crowley Student Union. Interested individuals must register online by February 2nd to participate.
“As we celebrate the 60th anniversary of the University of Nevada at Reno, we also take the opportunity at this event to showcase an outstanding figure in the field of gifted education who has made a huge contribution to resources and opportunities for talented, promising students. said Matt Means, dean of the honors college.
Davidson and his wife Jen have devoted most of their lives to philanthropic efforts to help young people become successful students. In 1999, Davidson created the Davidson Talent Development Institute, a non-profit operating foundation that recognizes, nurtures and supports deeply intelligent young people and provides them with opportunities to develop their talents to make a difference. In 2005, he and his wife worked to open a new type of public school for exceptionally gifted middle and high school students at the University of Nevada, Reno campus called Davidson Academy.
Davidson received his Juris Doctor from George Washington University, his MBA from UCLA, and his Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University. He also received an honorary doctorate from the University of Nevada at Reno in May 2010 and previously served on the Nevada Higher Education System Board of Regents.
