EL PASO, TX (KTSM) — The Homeless Opportunity Center released a statement Friday about a man being detained in front of one of their downtown El Paso shelters.
Security camera footage from the reception center shows a border guard agent in a green uniform chasing the man before picking him up and throwing him to the ground.
Ray Tullius, founder of the Homeless Opportunity Center, called the detention “excessive force” and called the encounter an isolated incident.
“Today, a person receiving services at the Reception Center, located at 201 E. 9th Avenue, was detained in front of the facility by Customs and Border Protection officers using what we believe was excessive force. As far as we know, this is an isolated case. However, this makes us concerned for the well-being of the detainee and all guests receiving services through our programs for the homeless,” Tullius said.
KTSM contacted CBP regarding this detention, to which they said, “While we do not have all the details of what happened during this incident at this time, CBP takes all allegations of misconduct seriously and is investigating thoroughly and holding employees accountable.” when the rules are broken.
