Viral Video Shows Dangerous Highway ‘Occupation’ On I-10 Leading To Gunshots And Multi-Vehicle Crash

SAN ANTONIO The video, which has received millions of views on social media, shows a dangerous scene on a busy highway in the northwestern part of the country.

The video was recorded Sunday night on Interstate 10 near Callaghan Road. You can hear gunshots and see the aftermath of what is often called a tram hijacking.

San Antonio police said that around 10 p.m., vehicles blocked the eastern lanes of I-10 and drivers began making donuts on the highway.

Police said a man in a white Dodge Challenger got out of his car and started shooting, causing drivers on both sides of the highway to flee the scene.

The chaos caused four vehicles to crash on the west lanes of I-10, police said.

A father and son caught in a traffic jam recorded the incident on their phones.

“Even shortly after we were there, just a couple of minutes later, we heard gunshots,” said the father, who wanted to be called Doc. “We can just see people start scrambling in every direction when it first worked.”

“Our initial reaction was to ‘head down’ and then people started to clear out a lot faster,” said Doc’s son, R.J. “Your fight or flight is intensifying, and that’s why people started to leave from there. But you also had people who were in a panic and stopped in the middle of the highway.”

Car theft in San Antonio is not uncommon.

“They block an intersection, a street, a highway, eat donuts, and usually get out of there pretty quickly. It’s not an indication of what the automotive community is about. It was just an accident,” Doc said.

RJ posted a video on social media to publicize the activity. As of Monday afternoon, he had over four million views on TikTok.

“There are situations where things get out of control and then things get out of control, people start to panic and people end up getting hurt,” said R.J.

Police said none of those who witnessed the shooting remained to cooperate with the investigation, and everyone involved in the crashes that followed did not want to be taken to the hospital.
