President Joe Biden is expected to deliver a border policy speech from the White House. The scheduled speeches will take place before a trip to El Paso on Sunday, after which the President will travel to Mexico City to meet with Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
In his speech Thursday, Biden is expected to discuss Section 42, a Trump-era policy that saw the U.S. Supreme Court block the Biden administration’s plan to lift restrictions last month. The president also plans to announce a US plan to send migrants back to Mexico from Venezuela, Nicaragua, Haiti and Cuba in exchange for receiving up to 30,000 people each month from sponsored countries that pass background checks.
