There were many goals on the basketball courts of the Coastal Bend this past week, with several sharpshooters shortlisted for the Sames Caller-Times High School Sportsman of the Week competition.
The Caller-Times hosts weekly nominations and publishes a list of finalists for High School Athlete of the Week each Tuesday.
Students from all varsity sports are eligible to be nominated. Voting will close on Thursday and winners will be announced on Friday each week.
Angelina Zepeda of Aransas Pass scored 53 points in two games for the Panthers in district play. Ray’s Truman Thompson scored 36 points, including eight 3-pointers, in a zone win over Gregory-Portland.
In the shootout, London’s Corley Levallen (34 points) and San Diego’s Marley Sanchez (31) scored in turns in the two-school game to become finalists for this week’s honor.
Nominations must be submitted by Monday 5:00 pm and can be emailed to [email protected] by tweeting the Caller-Times via its Facebook page or tweeting @CallerSports.

• Michaela Boyd, basketball player from Kingsville — Boyd pushed the Brahmas to a decisive victory over Kalallen in the district with 18 points and added 15 points in the victory over TM.
• Corley Levallen, London Women’s Basketball – Lewallen scored 34 points in a tight district thriller against San Diego.
• Shae Ruiz, Ingleside Women’s Basketball — Ruiz scored 27 points to lead the Mustangs to a district win over Rockport Fulton.
• Marley Sanchez, San Diego women’s basketball team — Sanchez made five 3-pointers and 31 points in the London shootout.
• Donnie Thomas, Bishop Boys Basketball Club — Thomas led the Badgers to Alice by 28 points, including four three-pointers, as the Badgers remained perfect in county play.
• Truman Thompson, Ray Boys basketball player — Thompson exploded with 36 points and eight 3-pointers in the District’s 29-5A North Zone win over GP.
• Billy White III, Boys’ Basketball Veterans Memorial – White scored 26 points, including five 3-pointers, in a pivotal District 29-5A South Zone game against Flour Bluff.
• Angelina Zepeda, Aransas Pass girls basketball player — Zepeda lost 33 points and 20 points in two Panthers wins last week.
