Winter Storm Warnings issued for parts of District 8

JONESBOROW, Arkansas (KAIT) — The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for parts of Region 8 as heavy snow approaches our area.

“At higher altitudes, we could see even more,” he added. “Not everyone will see snow. Locations with a winter storm warning are the most likely places to find snow.”

Chief meteorologist Ryan Vaughan echoed Passmore’s forecast, adding that “this snow will be wet, with big flakes that will stick to the trees.”

This sleet can also stick to power lines, causing possible power outages.

By 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, snow had already begun to fall in western Arkansas and cover roads.

The Arkansas Department of Transportation said it has snowplows to clear the roads.

To help motorists who may be stranded, Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders activated the Arkansas National Guard to assist the state police. Troops will operate with L Troop in northwest Arkansas from Tuesday, January 24, until road conditions improve and their assistance is no longer needed.

Tuesday’s press release did not say whether additional troops would be deployed in other parts of the state already under a winter storm warning, including parts of northeast Arkansas.
