Woman arrested for kidnapping her grandchildren in North Texas, police say

McKinney – Police say a woman in North Texas was arrested for kidnapping her two grandchildren last week, sparking an AMBER alert.

James Burns, 60, was taken into custody Sunday evening in Richardson and charged with two counts of kidnapping, McKinney police said in a press release. The children were found safe and sound on Sunday evening, but no details were released.

An AMBER Alert has been issued for her two young grandchildren. after they disappeared Thursday night on the 300 block of the North Central Expressway northbound to McKinney.

They had a supervised visit with the father, who was not in custody, and Child Protective Services at the time, police said. The CPS had temporary custody of the girls.

AMBER Alert identified Burns as a suspect in their disappearance. She is their paternal grandmother.

McKinney police said their father, Justin Burns, was arrested Thursday and charged with two counts of kidnapping.

“We believe he was involved in their disappearance,” the police said.

The investigation is ongoing.
