Gonzales High School in Texas to Put Students in ‘Prison’ Jumpsuits as Punishment for Breaking Dress Code

Gonzales High School in Texas will force students who don’t follow the rules to wear prison-like jumpsuits in a controversial move this coming school year. The school has new navy blue jumpsuits that students will wear if they break the dress code. The report said that violators will be forced to wear the jumpsuit for the day.

Some parents said the jumpsuits will make students feel like prisoners but the district said it’s just a way to keep the children dressed appropriately for school. A school board official said it’s “worth a try” because it’s a way to keep the district’s conservative values intact. Some students said the plan may backfire on the school.

“I talked to some of my friends about it and they said they are not going to obey the dress code just so they can wear the jumpsuit,” high school student Jordan Meredith. Yeah, some kids just won’t follow rules no matter what. Before the jumpsuits students who didn’t follow the code had to sit in the office and wait for their parents to bring them clothes or face in-school suspension. In reality, I think this is very heavy-handed, but who knows what happened to force the school to do this. I am ambivalent on this one. What say you?

NYC Cop David London Placed on Desk Duty After Clubbing Handcuffed Army Vet Walter Harvin

Yet another New York City cop has been stripped of his gun and placed on modified desk duty. Officer David London, 43, was stripped of his gun and badge Monday and placed on desk duty as the NYPD Internal Affairs Bureau investigated the July 18 incident. According to the NY Daily News, London was caught on tape beating a handcuffed Army vet paused to take a phone call and then went right back to smashing the man with his baton.

London and his partner stopped Harvin, 28, as he tried to enter the DeHostos Apartment on W. 93rd St., where Harvin’s mother lives, about 1:15 a.m. “I told him don’t close it because I don’t have the keys,” said Harvin, a vet who was discharged in 2004 for post traumatic stress disorder. “As I walked into the elevator he grabbed my arm. That’s when I pushed him,” Harvin said. “I was on the floor and he kept beating me with the stick. He sprayed me with Mace. While I was on the floor, he handcuffed me. I don’t remember too much about it.”

Security video from the building showed London beating Harvin after he was cuffed and on the ground, a source said. Why did he beat the man after he was handcuffed and on the ground? That makes no sense.

According to media reports, as London and his partner propped the handcuffed war vet up against a wall, London’s cell phone rang, sources said. Video showed London talking on the phone for 90 seconds before he resumed beating Harvin, sources said. London told colleagues Harvin went berserk when he was asked to show identification or proof he was entitled to be in the building.

Harvin started punching and kicking the cops, screaming, “You can’t take me!” court papers say. Harvin said he didn’t remember much of what happened once the beating started. He was charged with assault and resisting arrest and was released pending a hearing.

This is a very troubling trend that is emerging in New York City and comes on the heels of incidents involving rookie cop Patrick Pogan bodychecking a cyclist and Maurice Harrington videotaped beating another man. The Police Commissioner had better put his boys in check before lawsuits start flying if it is found that these cops acted with excessive force.

Pastor Anthony Hopkins of Mobile Charged with Murdering his Wife after her Body Found in Freezer in His Home

Freezer murder suspect preaches

Well, another pastor has bitten the dust. This is such a heinous crime that if he is found guilty, he deserves the death penalty. The alleged murderous scumbag is Pastor Anthony Hopkins, who was leading a revival in a small church on the outskirts of Jackson, Ala., when police discovered the body of a woman, presumed to be his wife Arletha Hopkins, stuffed in a freezer at his house in Mobile. According to the Press-Register, the police acting on a tip given by Hopkins’ daughter, the eldest of eight children, said they knew where to look and what they were likely to find when they searched the Rylands Street house. He was also charged with sexually abusing his eldest daughter.

Mobile Police Chief Phillip Garrett said that the corpse looked like it had been in the freezer for “quite a while.” He said that it is unclear exactly how long she had been in the freezer , but nobody has heard from Arletha Hopkins in more than three years.

Funny, it seems as though he had a premonition of what was to come because he spoke about forgiveness during his last sermon. Hopkins told the congregation that his eldest daughter had left the house.”He said he told her she had to do what she had to do,” Jackson said. Looking at his seven children, “He asked them to forgive him for his sins: past, present and future.” If he is guilty of killing his wife and of the rape and sodomy of his daughter, he deserves to the death penalty in no uncertain terms. What is going on in this country? So many people have lost their way.

Rapper Ludacris Gets Dressed Down by Obama Campaign for Crude Lyrics

It appears that Barack Obama is going to have to distance himself from yet another supporter. This time Ludacris has crossed Obama. Ludacris has stooped to a new low, especially since he is trying to come across not just as a rapper, but a conscious brother. In his latest rap he calls Senator Hillary Clinton a “bitch” and said that John McCain “don’t belong in any chair unless he’s paralyzed” and also throws insults at Jesse Jackson and George W. Bush. The lyrics are actually very insulting and crude, but hey, the music companies don’t seem to mind the garbage they are backing, so how can we stop this crap from infiltrating our airwaves? Actually, people keep buying this kind of music, so how can we wipe it out?

Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton issued a statement, condemning Ludacris for his ridiculous lyrics.

“As Barack Obama has said many, many times in the past, rap lyrics today too often perpetuate misogyny, materialism, and degrading images that he doesn’t want his daughters or any children exposed to. This song is not only outrageously offensive to Senator Clinton, Reverend Jackson, Senator McCain, and President Bush, it is offensive to all of us who are trying to raise our children with the values we hold dear. While Ludacris is a talented individual he should be ashamed of these lyrics.”

This is one dust-up we really don’t need, but since Rev. Jesse Jackson has turned out to be the hypocrite many people thought he is. I don’t expect to hear him add his two cents, nor do I expect to hear Rev. Al Sharpton condemning Ludacris, since he thought we must forgive Jackson for the crude comments he made about Obama. So, I hope he will afford Ludacris the same consideration he did his home-boy Jesse.

Chloe Black, Ex-Wife of former KKK leader David Duke, Represents School for Blacks, Hispanics

According to Fox News, Chloe Black, who is the ex-wife of David Duke, the former head of the Ku Klux Klan and is now married to Don Black, the creator of a notorious white supremacist Web site, Stormfront, is working as a spokeswoman for a school that aims to lift underprivileged black and Hispanic children out of poverty. Mrs. Black is currently employed as an executive assistant at Florida Crystals, a sugar conglomerate whose owners, the Fanjul brothers, have donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to help build a new campus for Glades Academy.

Glades is a charter school for the children of African-American and migrant workers in Pahokee, a rural town in Palm Beach County. Billionaire Jose “Pepe” Fanjul’s wife, Emilia, is chairman of the board of Glades Academy, and she hired Black to help promote the school.

Reports suggest that Black’s salary from the school may be going to support her husband’s activities on the hate site, as Don Black has had no clear source of income for some time. Don Black, in an online appeal for contributions to his hate site, wrote that he does not receive a salary from the site. “Stormfront is an online community of White activists,” he wrote. “It’s not a business, no one receives a salary, and our work is supported by voluntary contributions.”

When contacted by FOXNews.com, Chloe Black refused to discuss the allegations or her role in Glades Academy. She told the New York Post earlier this month that she hasn’t been involved with the white supremacy movement “in 30 years.” But the SPLC, which has followed the Blacks as principal leaders of the white supremacist movement for decades, said that is not true.

Mark Potok, the SPLC’s intelligence project director, said Black in June attended a key conference of the Council of Conservative Citizens, a group that says on its Web site that it opposes “all efforts to mix the races of mankind” and once described black people as “a retrograde species of humanity.”

“The SPLC’s role is not to make demands of the Fanjuls. But they have put as a front woman on this very worthy philanthropic project a woman who represents everything that is antithetical to this project. This is an untenable position. She is not merely a woman who married white supremacist leaders; she has actively participated in white supremacist functions,” Potok said. Potok said he found Black’s involvement with Glades Academy “unbelievable.” I second that!

I wonder how this remained under the radar. In 1972 the then Chloe Hardin married David Duke, former Grand Wizard of the Knights of the KKK who is described as a neo-Nazi by his critics. They divorced in 1984 but are reportedly still friendly and speak regularly. Black is the mother of Duke’s two daughters.

Four years later she married Don Black, Duke’s best friend and an ex-Klansman himself. Black is the founder and webmaster of Stormfront, the premier online location for white supremacists in the U.S. and Europe.

This woman clearly does not have the best interests of those kids at heart. I guess, maybe it’s just a paycheck to her. This messed up. A white supremacist helping to run a school for black and Hispanic kids. I guess the Fanjuls just didn’t bother to check this woman out thoroughly before they hired her. For all the good that this family has done, someone will always interject the fact that they hired a person with known ties to the KKK and neo-Nazis. Ain’t life a bitch!

NY Cop Maurice Harrington Placed on Modified Desk Duty After Beating Incident of Michael Cephus Disclosed

It seems that the New York Police Department has been in the news a lot lately. Well, the latest involves the beating of Michael Cephus. The NYPD has temporarily taken away the badge and gun of the baton-wielding officer, Maurice Harrington and placed him on desk duty as investigators review his repeated strikes July 4th against Cephus who was allegedly resisting arrest.

A passerby had filmed part of the confrontation between Cephus of Brooklyn and officers on Delancey Street about 8:25 p.m. Police maintain that Cephus had been drinking, had swung at police officers with an umbrella, hit two cops with his fists and had refused to be handcuffed. His attorney counters that Cephus was not intoxicated, did not strike the officers and should not have been arrested.”I would never strike an officer,” said Cephus, a former truck driver. “Why should I get beat up? Why should anybody get beat up?

“The officer has been modified until further notice,” said NYPD spokesman Paul Browne. Union Leader Patrick Lynch, head of the Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association defended Harrington, saying he used the proper amount of force to subdue a suspect who was clearly resisting arrest and at one point trying to grab an officer’s baton.
“Partial video never tells the whole story,” said Lynch. “That person was not only not complying but gripping in a death grip that baton. That’s a danger to the police officer.”

Background?

According to WNBC, Harrington, 31, a four-year veteran assigned to the 52nd Precinct in the Bronx, had been working a special Fourth of July police detail in Lower Manhattan when the confrontation with Cephus happened. Cephus had been trying to reach a park along the East River to watch the fireworks and police had accused him of illegally trying to carry liquor inside. His lawyer, Steven Orlow, denied that his client was carrying liquor that evening, noting that he was not subsequently arrested on that charge. Police did charge Cephus with assault on a police officer, criminal possession of a weapon (the umbrella), menacing and resisting arrest.

Final thoughts…

I am not accusing the cops of anything, just wondering out loud if they have forgotten that we live in the You Tube age where a lot of things show up in the Internet and beyond….

Alan Rocoff Under Suspicion for Theft of $218,000 from Brooklyn Church over Foreclosure Deal

Robert Booker Jr., outside Faithway Deliverance Center, says church was
supposed to get money left after sale.

This is a story that is about to get ugly. According to the NY Daily News, Alan Rocoff, a lawyer close to the Brooklyn Democratic machine is suspected of stealing $218,000 from an East Flatbush church in a mortgage foreclosure deal.

The Brooklyn district attorney’s office is probing allegations that Alan Rocoff, the court-appointed referee for the foreclosure, refused to turn over the money to the Faithway Deliverance Center.

“My father founded the church with his own money and couldn’t make the mortgage payments. When the property was foreclosed and sold, we were supposed to get what was left over,” said Robert Booker Jr., son of the founding pastor of the Pentecostal church at 2525 Snyder Ave in an interview with the Daily News. Pastor Robert Booker Sr., who founded the church in 1978, died in May after struggling in the courts for more than five years to collect the debt.

Five different judges have heard the case and ordered Rocoff to pay up, but he hasn’t; nor has he been charged. Foreclosure referees, often appointed through connections with judges, are typically paid $1,000 for what amounts to two hours’ work. It involves collecting and then depositing the cash proceeds of a sale with a court clerk for eventual disbursement.

Rocoff was appointed referee by his friend Brooklyn Civil Court Judge Michael Garson, who later admitted stealing $163,000 from an aunt’s bank account. Garson was kicked off the bench. He quit the bar, reimbursed his aunt’s estate and pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor to avoid jail. Birds of a feather, flock together!

According to the Daily News, the church property was sold on Nov.26, 2002, in foreclosure for $301,000. There was $218,556 left after the mortgage and other debts were paid. “A check in that amount was deposited in Greenpoint Savings Bank account in Cherry Hill, N.J., but Rocoff said he didn’t know where the money was, and told other stories about what happened to to it,” said Rubin Ferziger, who replaced Rocoff as referee on the case.

Here’s the most ridiculous statements he has made to date: Rocoff claimed the Mafia stole his bank accounts and files. Two years ago, he voluntarily suspended himself from the bar, saying he is medically unable to practice law. That’s because he is a damned crook. Described by a former associate as a “shadowy figure out of the Truman Democratic Club,” Rocoff was a confidant of jailed former Brooklyn Democratic Party boss Clarence Norman. Somehow I hear Rikers Island calling out to him.

Sharpton Defends Jackson Despite Obama Comments

The Rev. Al Sharpton defended the Rev. Jesse Jackson, who has come under fire for his recent crude off-air criticism of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.”We have all made mistakes. We have all erred, and we ought not try to sugar coat when we err,” Sharpton told a gathering of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference in this New Orleans suburb. “But we should not throw away everything when we err, and to say that Rev. Jackson made a mistake is correct, but to act like Rev. Jesse Jackson is not pivotal to our movement, our history … is wrong.””Jesse Jackson,” he added, “is somebody.”

Sharpton applauded Obama’s success and promised to do what he could to get him elected. But he also said there is room for more than one leader in the ongoing fight for civil rights. He called Obama, a product of the civil rights movement, not the end to it. “The bias in the media is they try to act like we can’t have multiple strategists,” Sharpton said. “We have never had a one-man movement.”

So, herein lies the problem, the appearance of a double standard and that it was okay for Rev. Jackson not be treated the same way as Imus or even the rappers who use the N-word. It is okay for Sharpton and Jackson to castigate people who would speak against blacks in derogatory terms. This is why people cannot take them seriously and literally tune them out when they speak. For what it is worth, Sharpton has made some valid points on all fronts, but to imply that we should give Jackson a pass because of his contribution to the civil rights movement is insulting. He should be held to the same standards he holds others to. This is not a do-as-I-say and not-as-I-do issue. Jackson is a hypocritic, plain and simple.

SCLC Protests Gas Prices, Prepares to March on Washington

The Southern Christian Leadership Conference is at it again….. According to the Louisiana Weekly, they targeted a string of gas stations in the state and those who support the organization’s efforts to protest the damaging effects the rising cost of fuel is having on American families.

“The Southern Christian Leadership Conference – on behalf of the powerless and poor people of this nation – thinks that the skyrocketing gas prices are an injustice to everyday, ordinary citizens,” the Rev. Byron Clay, National Vice President of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, told The Louisiana Weekly. “We feel that the gas prices are being manipulated and we are sick and tired of it. We concluded that enough is enough and decided to take some actions.”

These actions will include a March on Washington on Saturday, August 23, organized by a broad-based coalition of organizations that includes the SCLC, AFL-CIO and the National Baptist Convention of America, Clay said. “Gas prices are going up and people are being forced to choose whether to buy groceries or pay for gas, whether to pay their light bill or buy gas to get to and fro,” Clay said.

Clay said rising gas prices are having a “domino effect” that is causing some Americans to lose their jobs because they are no longer able to afford to drive to work. Loss of employment in turn has on exacerbated the ongoing mortgage foreclosure crisis, he said. Short-term solutions and responses to the gas crisis have included increased commuting, canceled summer vacations, the utilization of bicycles, motorbikes and public transportation to get to and from work and an increase in the number of people working from home offices.

“There would have been no New South without the SCLC, in fact there would have been no New America without the SCLC,” Clay told The Louisiana Weekly. “We have made tremendous progress over the years politically as evidenced by Black governors, a Black senator who is now running for president. We have state senators, capitalists throughout the country and Congressmen representing us across the nation as well as Black mayors. Politically, we have made some significant steps but we still have a long way to go.

“We have made some steps economically – because now you have African-American entrepreneurs who are getting contracts and are now prime contractors – but we still have a long way to go,” he continued. “We have improved socially, but we still have a long way to go. “The Ku Klux Klan no longer has the guts to openly lynch us, but we must remember that that mentality and that spirit still lives. Oftentimes, we find that we’re being lynched through the judicial system. African Americans and poor people don’t have access to resources, don’t have access to influence the power, so oftentimes they’re railroaded by the system. There are some inequities in the judicial system that need to be corrected. Equality is not a systematic movement of all things Black to all things white, but it is an emphatic movement from all things that are wrong to all things that are right. It is the task, charge and mission of the SCLC to redeem the soul of America in whole – not in part, but in whole – and it is our vision and our hope that as we re-embrace and recapture the spirit of Martin Luther King Jr. that justice will truly run down as water and righteousness as a mighty stream.”

You be the judge of this. Personally, I think a march on Washington over gas prices, which is squeezing everyone, no matter your race, is a bit much. I also like the fact that he has taken credit for his organization supposedly creating the New South and getting rid of the Ku Klux Klan. Yes, so I suppose nobody else, white or black, played a role in this. This is coming from the same organization that said Michelle Obama was being treated as such because she had “slave blood” running through her veins. Am I disputing their contributions in the civil rights struggle, no way, but let’s be real….
