Off-Duty Philadelphia Police Officer Brian Lorenzo Killed by Wrong-Way Driver on Interstate 95

FALLEN LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER:  Off-duty Philadelphia Police Officer Brian Lorenzo, 48, was killed by a wrong-way driver John Leck Jr. on Interstate 95 early Sunday morning near Cottman Avenue.

Officer Brian Lorenzo was in full uniform and heading north on a Highway Patrol motorcycle when he was hit by a vehicle heading south in the northbound lanes.

Officer Lorenzo, who is survived by a wife and three children, was 23-year veteran of the force. John Leck Jr, a 48 year old man from Levittown, is in police custody and charges against him are expected shortly.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the fallen officers — Police Officer Brian Lorenzo and Patrolman Christopher Reeves (killed in car accident in Millville, NJ) — and their families.

UPDATE#1 (07/09/12):  Charges have been filed against John Leck Jr., the Levittown man who caused the fatal accident involving Officer Brian Lorenzo. John Leck Jr. will be charged with homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence of alcohol and related offenses.
