Romney’s ‘Bold’ Veep Pick Paul Ryan Slams Obama for Auto Plant that Closed Under George W. Bush

Paul Ryan’s hypocrisy continues to show, added with a level of dumbness. He now blames President Obama for not saving an auto plant that closed on former president George W. Bush. The plant closed in 2008.

Bad News for Obama as Unemployment Rose in 44 States for July, Rates Fell in Only 2 States

Possible trouble for Obama as unemployment rose in 44 states for the month of July, the most states to show a monthly increase in more than three years and a reflection of weak hiring nationwide, USA Today reports.

The Labor Department said Friday that unemployment rates fell in only two states and were unchanged in four.

Unemployment rates rose in nine states that are considered battlegrounds in the presidential election. That trend, if it continued, could pose a threat to President Barack Obama’s re-election bid in less than three months.

Nationwide, hiring improved in July after three months of tepid job gains. But the national unemployment rate ticked up to 8.3% from 8.2%. Monthly job gains have averaged 150,000 this year. That’s barely enough to accommodate population growth. As a result, the unemployment rate is the same as when the year began. Source

If the Obama team goes into November with these numbers, they could lose the elections, that’s from a historical standpoint. Mitt Romney is a very weak candidate, but like 2008, people were willing to try anyone other than a Bush. If this continues, Mitt Romney’s tax return problem may not be as important to many as an improving economy.

Rage Against the Machine’s Guitarist Tom Morley Blasts Paul Ryan as “Embodiment of What Our Music is Against”

Rage Against the Machine’s guitarist blasts Romney’s ‘bold’ vice presidential pick saying “I don’t care for Paul Ryan’s sound or his lyrics.” He also told Rolling Stone magazine, “He [Ryan] can like whatever bands he wants, but his guiding vision of shifting revenue more radically to the one percent is antithetical to the message of Rage.

I wonder what Ryan’s favorite Rage song is? Is it the one where we condemn the genocide of Native Americans? The one lambasting American imperialism? Our cover of “Fuck the Police”? Or is it the one where we call on the people to seize the means of production? So many excellent choices to jam out to at Young Republican meetings!

You see, the super rich must rationalize having more than they could ever spend while millions of children in the U.S. go to bed hungry every night. So, when they look themselves in the mirror, they convince themselves that “Those people are undeserving. They’re . . . lesser.” Some of these guys on the extreme right are more cynical than Paul Ryan, but he seems to really believe in this stuff. This unbridled rage against those who have the least is a cornerstone of the Romney-Ryan ticket. Source

Damn, Paul Ryan just got lambasted by a rocker. Who knew he had it in him to write such a lucid and hard-hitting article?

TV One Introduces “R&B Divas” Atlanta-Based Reality Show Starring Faith Evans, Four Singers with Marginal Careers

TV One introduces RandB Divas starring Faith Evans

TV One Introduces “R&B Divas” Atlanta-Based Reality Show Starring Faith Evans, Four Singers with Marginal Careers (Photo credit:  TV One)

As if we need another reality show, TV One is only too happy to oblige with “R&B Divas,” which features Faith Evans,  Monifah Carter, Nicci Gilbert, Syleena Johnson and Keke Wyatt. It must be because the management at TV One, founded by Cathy Hughes, loves to make a mockery out of blacks on television. “R&B Divas” debuts on August 20. Um, with the exception of Faith Evans, the other cast-members couldn’t possibly think they are credible, much less music icons to emulate. Sorry, but this will be the typical drama-filled show that doesn’t portray black women in a positive light.

TV One already shows that there will be drama, as evidenced from their press release on the show:

They are all juggling myriad personal challenges and responsibilities in addition to making music – including raising families. Faith prepares for a major move as she maintains her businesses and helps manage the estate of a music icon. She also launches a new hair care product line, Glass Hair Products. Monifah reveals a bombshell that could drive a wedge between them. Syleena makes a career decision that will affect her entire family and put additional strain on her financially.

Here are the bios on the ladies:

Faith Evans. She won a Grammy for “I’ll Be Missing You,” her tribute to her late husband Notorious B.I.G. She has three platinum albums under her belt, too. The 39-year-old singer has six total Grammy nominations.

– Nicci Gilbert. She’s the lead singer/songwriter with Brownstone and was nominated for a Grammy for their biggest hit in 1995, “If You Love Me.’ While starring in Tyler Perry’s hit play “Meet the Browns,” Nicci decided to pursue a career as a playwright and producer.

– Monifah. She has a Wikipedia page and a few minor R&B hits under her belt but has never broken it big. She has worked with the likes of Heavy D and Teddy Riley.

– Syleena Johnson, a soul singer, has released several albums. She too has never had any major hits but has built a following. (Her Facebook page has 12,000 followers.)

- Keke Wyatt had a platinum-selling solo debut album “Soul Sista” but her career suffered aftershe was arrested for stabbing her husband. (Charges were later dropped. She herself later said she was a victim of domestic violence and merely defending herself.) Source: AJC

You will also remember Faith Evans had her brush with the law in Atlanta and was married to former drug dealer Notorious B.I.G. But everyone deserves a second chance. Um, Nicci Gilbert thinks she’s an actress since she appeared in one Tyler Perry film and an episode of “Martin,” where her acting skills were pathetic. She also popped on on Dr. Drew shortly after Whitney Houston died, trying to act as though she knew the singer intimately and is an authority on relationships and psychology.

On a serious note, this comes as ABC News slams Mitt Romney for using his white board at a rally in Greer, SC, saying it amounted to NOTHING! Mitt Romney is his own worst enemy and his sidekick is proving that the fruit doesn’t fall far from the tree. SMH.

Court Awards $1.1 Million Settlement in Discrimination Case of Black Kids Shunned by The Valley Club Swimming Pool

Three years after the Montgomery County club, The Valley Club, denied a group of black and Hispanic campers from the Creative Steps Day Care use of the swimming pool, a court has awarded $1.1 million in the racial discrimination lawsuit.

…the club eventually filed for bankruptcy. It was sold for $1.46 million at auction in June 2010, according to court documents.

The U.S. Department of Justice said if the agreement is approved by the Bankruptcy Court of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, The Valley Club’s remaining assets would be distributed once the bankruptcy case is closed.

[…]

The settlement also calls for $65,000 to be set aside to establish a “Diversity Leadership Council” between Creative Steps and former members of The Valley Club.

The settlement money would be split among Creative Steps Inc., the 65 children shunned from the pool and camp counselors.

The attorneys are set to receive up to a maximum of 20 percent of the settlement money, although they said the exact figure has not been determined. Source

BLOODBATH in Post-Apartheid South Africa as Police Kill 34, Wound 78 Striking Miners at Platinum Mine

BLOODBATH in post-apartheid South Africa as police kill 34, wounded 78 as striking miners refuse to back down from their demands at a platinum mine, police chief Riah Phiyega says officers’ reaction justifed.

MARIKANA, South Africa (Reuters) – The police killing of 34 striking platinum miners in the bloodiest security operation since the end of white rule cut to the quick of South Africa’s psyche on Friday, with searching questions asked of its post-apartheid soul.

Newspaper headlines screamed “Bloodbath”, “Killing Field” and “Mine Slaughter”, with graphic photographs of heavily armed white and black police officers walking casually past the bloodied corpses of black men lying crumpled in the dust.

[…]

Phiyega, a former banking executive who was only appointed to lead the police force in June, said officers had acted in self-defence against charging, armed assailants at Lonmin’s Marikana platinum plant.

“The police members had to employ force to protect themselves from the charging group,” she told a news conference, noting that two policemen had been hacked to death by a mob at the mine on Tuesday.

However, the South African Institute of Race relations likened the incident to the 1960 Sharpeville township massacre near Johannesburg, when apartheid police opened fire on a crowd of black protesters, killing more than 50. Source:  Reuters

It seems to me that President Jacob Zuma is more worried about his “The Spear” portrait than about the welfare of the people in his country. Some things never change — the powers that held South Africa under apartheid are still around, just in another form.
