SHOCK:  Andrew Quade, who is white, was beaten by three black men for dating a black woman, Olufisayo Bakre, in Savannah, Ga. Um, are we still living in the dark ages? Come on people.

The interracial couple were strolling through Ellis Square, a public space in Savannah, shortly before midnight last Friday, when they say three black men began taunting them.

The provocation began as racial slurs, then the scoffers started blowing kisses and suddenly the trio jumped the boyfriend, Andrew Quade – who is white, beating him and leaving him barely conscious. The violent response to the mixed-race romance has left the couple in shock that such vicious intolerance still exists.

‘This shouldn’t happen in this day in age. I know we’re in the South and all that, but it’s time for a change,’ the girlfriend, Olufisayo Bakre, told WTOC-TV news. Source

This is a disgrace. Please release the names and pictures of these three thugs for the world to see. I hope people take the high road and not go Gabby Douglas on Olufisayo Bakre by criticizing her hair. That’s not important. The three thugs who beat Andrew Quade should be the focus.

    This is the same region (and the same country) in which Black women, men, girls, and boys watched their mothers, grandmothers, and daughters raped, gang-raped, and completely violated and often murdered by White men. There has been no justice for those crimes to this day.

    Why isn’t anyone talking about the “whys” in this situation, speaking as if they simply had the same motives as whites do when whites attack interracial couples?? This is the elephant in the room and shame on this website for not putting this in context.

    Ironically, this young woman has a Yoruba name. I’m assuming she’s a nigerian living in the region and very well likely unaware of the extent to which this history has affected our ethnic group. No matter how long she has lived there, no matter where she was born, if she is not descended from that same history, that same ethnic group, she will never understand the pain, anger, shame, and outrage we are plagued with as a result of white transgression and oppression in the US.

    This website seems to be less about political thought, and more like a crime feed.

      Here’s a thought for you. None of what you say has ahppened in a hundred years. Why not give up your grudge already and move forward? You can’t prgress if all you ever do is look back. Not to mention, I GUARANTEE that none of the thugs that did this have EVER witnessed what you are describing, unless they perpetrated it themselves. Things that happened over a hundred years ago are NO justification for the beating of a couple of people that obviously managed to avoid the hate-mongering you are trying to keep alive.

      You have forwarded an incredibly niave assessment of the situation. A couple suffers physical violence and your immediate reaction is to direct accusations as to why this was somehow there fault. This is called BLAMING THE VICTIM.

      Let it be known that you yourself have displayed racism on 3 distinct levels in your comments by: 1) underhandedly endorsing physical violence on a couple based upon their mixed race status, and 2) diminishing the experiences of an entire people group by failing to acknowledge the oppression faced by Yoruba peoples at the hands of white colonialists, and 3) forwarding misconceptions and “fear of the other” in your discussion of immigrant populations.

      I am strongly in favor of addressing and challenging the historic and continuing (often institutionalized) racism that has been become engrained in American society. But not at the expense of victims like these.

    My heart goes out to this couple and others like them, who can look beyond ‘color’, and see love in one of it’s highest forms. The day is coming where the rule of demented, deadly, murderous mankind will go away forever, and the Lord who sees beyond color and everything will make this go away for good. Hopefully and prayerfully that day is SOON.
