Rep. Mike Kelly (R-PA), an opponent of abortion rights, equated the health care mandate for the coverage of contraceptive services for women, to Pearl Harbor and the terrorist attack on 9/11. In fact, he said, today’s date will live in infamy alongside those two other historic occasions.
“I know in your mind you can think of times when America was attacked. One is December 7th, that’s Pearl Harbor day. The other is September 11th, and that’s the day of the terrorist attack,” Kelly said at a press conference on Capitol Hill. “I want you to remember August the 1st, 2012, the attack on our religious freedom. That is a day that will live in infamy, along with those other dates.” Source
Wow, I just love when rich white men tell women what to do with their bodies. The last time I checked, a man couldn’t get pregnant. Rep. Mike Kelly owes America an apology for having the hubris to equate birth control with the deaths of so many people in this country. No man has the right to tell a woman whether or not she should have medical coverage for birth control.
