Romney Campaign Cries Like a Baby Over VP Joe Biden ‘Chains’ Remark, Calls it “New Low”

The Hill:  “Mitt Romney’s campaign issued a scathing statement Tuesday, blasting the Obama campaign for hitting a “new low” after Vice President Biden’s suggestion to voters that the Republican ticket’s economic policies would “put y’all back in chains.”

The Romney campaign also hit a new low when they told a bare-face lie about Obama gutting the welfare reforms Bill Clinton put in place with a second ad. You can’t have it both ways. Let’s see, did Mitt Romney renounce surrogate John Sununu’s remark that Obama needs to learn to be an American? I think not. Mitt Romney and his team are a bunch of wusses!

The Obama campaign refuses to denounce Joe Biden’s comments:

‘We have no problem with those comments,” said Obama deputy campaign manager Stephanie Cutter on MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports.”

Pressed on whether President Obama himself agrees with those comments, Cutter said the full context of the remarks was important.

“[Obama] probably agrees with Joe Biden’s sentiments,” Cutter said. “He’s using a metaphor to talk about what’s going to happen.”
“I appreciate the faux outrage from the Romney campaign. But if you want to talk about the use of words, then take a look at MR’s stump speech where he basically calls the president ‘un-American,’” Cutter added.

Senior strategist David Axelrod also denounced the controversy, tweeting: “Enough phony outrage from Team Mitt, while they pour millions into ads that blatantly, brazenly lie aboutPOTUS record on welfare to work.” Source

Here’s an interesting nugget from the Daily Kos:

While team Romney is accusing Biden of using a racial “code word“, here’s Mitt Romney himself, in his USA Today editorial from last December, demanding that we “remove the shackles of government.

Janet you know darn well if Romney or Ryan had made that comment not only YOU but the Reverends Jackson and Sharpton, along with every bobble head on MSNBC would be screaming how RACIST the Romney campaign is. I guess if a liberal says anything it’s all right. But how dare a conservative say the same thing.

    • Pelmo — The problem with your argument is that many Republicans, including Romney’s one-time rival Rick Santorum has used the word “shackles” repeatedly on the campaign trail. Um, Romney didn’t say peep then. You have complained about Obama ignoring Main Street like George W. Bush. How do you explain what is happening to the middle class and the poor? Isn’t it akin to economic slavery? Romney is in bed with billionaire Sheldon Adelson, who will give one of his casinos to him if he could defeat Obama in November. Do you know what Romney’s plans are for this country? Oh, I’m sorry, he refuses to disclose in detail what those plans are. How many times has Rush Limbaugh insulted the black community. Where were you then? Better yet,

Biden’s gaffe about “winning North Carolina,” while he was addressing voters in Virginia, seems to be missing from this post – an oversight, right? As well as Biden’s bizarre imitation of the hands of his sign language translator. Wonder how either of those would have played here had Sarah Palin or Mitt Romney or Paul Ryan or George W. Bush done the same thing. As far as Biden’s disgusting “chains” remark, not too long ago everyone who disagreed with Obama’s statist spend-more agenda was viciously labeled a racist by liberal pundits and congressional Democrats. Team Romney was correct in slamming Biden for his not-so-veiled racist assertion. Last week, Priorities USA implied with its debunked “woman dying of cancer” ad that Romney was a murderer. Next week, I’m guessing Team Obama and his minions will find some way to blame Romney for Obama’s failed economy, Obama’s cronyism, Obama’s scandal with the botched Operation Fast and Furious, and/or Obama’s horrific records for unemployment (higher than 8 percent for 42 months like it was during the Great Depression) and issuance of food stamps.

    • Nice try but there are several Republicans who have used the word “shackles” in their speeches on different topics. There are several songs that reference the word “chains” and the Republicans didn’t complain one iota.

As for the economy — this mess didn’t start with President Obama. George W. Bush took eight years to make a muddled mess of this country and you expect Obama to wave a magic wand and fix it in four?
