‘Hotel Transylvania’ Trounces Weekend Box Office With $43 Million, With ‘Looper’ in 2nd Place

North American Weekend Box Office results: Sony Pictures’ 3D animation Hotel Transylvania, which stars Adam Sandler, Kevin James and Fran Drescher, leads with weekend box office with $43 million, followed by TriStar’s Looper in second place with $21.2 million. Open Road Film’s End of Watch snags the third spot with $8 million, followed by Warner Bros.’ Trouble with the Curve with $7.5 million in fourth place, with Relativity’s House at the End of the Street rounding out the top five with $7.2 million.

Hotel Transylvania, which also stars Selena Gomez and Andy Samberg, saw the biggest opening since The Dark Knight Rises and is also the best performance to date for the studio’s animation unit. According to Sony, Looper, which was released by Sony’s TriStar label in conjunction with FilmDistrict and Endgame Entertainment, propelled the company to first place in domestic market share with $1.3 billion, edging out Warner Bros. Looper was directed by Rian Johnson and stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis.
