President Obama gets so little respect from some Israelis that you would never know his administration increased aid to their country. Well, as expected, he was heckled during a speech to 600 students in Jerusalem Thursday, but he didn’t skip a beat.
Half-way through President Obama’s speech a man began shouting in Hebrew. It was reported later that he was shouting about imprisoned spy Jonathan Pollard. President Obama played it off:
“This is part of the lively debate that we talked about,” he joked. Then, added: “I have to say we actually arranged for that because it made me feel at home. I wouldn’t feel comfortable if I didn’t have at least one heckler.”
The students gave him a standing ovation, further proof that he is still a favorite among young people. I give him a lot of credit for reminding them that an independent and viable Palestine is paramount for Israel to thrive and endure as a Jewish and democratic state. President Obama renewed his call for a two-state solution in the Middle East. You see, Mitt Romney and many Republicans have it twisted, that it was the other way around.
