#RIPReaganBeene: Sad day for students at Cambridge High School in Milton, Ga. Reagan Beene, a ninth grader, reportedly committed suicide today.
There’s an outpouring of sympathies and love on Twitter for the football player. There’s an unwritten rule that a parent isn’t supposed to bury his or her child.
There are unconfirmed reports on social media that Reagan Beene got in trouble for throwing a party. There were reportedly drugs and alcohol present in the home. His parents were away. The person who supplied the drugs and alcohol should be held accountable. Still, it’s a sad commentary that he felt he had no other option than to use a shotgun. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the teen’s family. He is survived by parents, Jeffry and Britt, sisters, Anderson and Mallory, and younger brother, Travis. Parents hold your kids close to you and let them know how much you love them. Life will never be the same for this family. Please, lift them up in prayer.
There are reports that Milton Police charged Reagan Beene and a dozen of his friends with underage drinking at a house party in the Crooked Creek subdivision. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 18, at 3 p.m. at Stonecreek Church. The family is requesting donations to Stonecreek Church, 13540 Ga. 9 N., Milton, Ga. 30004 in the name of “Reagan Austin Beene,” in lieu of flowers.
Reagan Beene’s death comes one day after Arapahoe High School student Karl Pierson shot fellow-student Claire Davis at point blank range and then committed suicide inside the school, which is located in Centennial, Colorado.
UPDATE: The Medical Examiner’s office confirms Reagan Beene died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Here’s more from the Atlanta Journal Constitution:
About 8 p.m. Friday, Milton police responded to a call of about a dozen kids “drinking beer and smoking weed” on the front lawn of a home, according to a report from the department. When officers arrived, police did not see anyone in the yard, but several boys and girls were scurrying through the home, authorities said. Two teens, a boy and girl, jumped from a bedroom window and across the fairway of a nearby golf course, police said.
Once inside the house, authorities said “numerous empty cans of beer were found in a trash can in the basement along with an empty Budweiser beer box.” Beene’s parents were out of town during the incident, according to the report. The teen was left with his 20-year-old sister, who was at the home during the party. Police instructed the young woman to “call her mother or father and advise them that her brother is having an underage drinking party at their home,” authorities said.

Cambridge High School principal Dr. Spurka sent out this notice:
It is with great sadness that I send this message to our community. Today, Cambridge High School mourns the loss of one of our beloved 9th graders, Reagan Beene. We express our deepest sympathy to the Beene family; our thoughts and prayers are with them in this time of grief.
On Monday, our counseling staff and administration will be available to assist and support students throughout the day as they face this tremendous loss. For students who need extra support, our counselors will hold a meeting along with the generous staff from Stonecreek Church. First thing Monday morning, our students will have the opportunity to meet in our auditorium and will then be escorted by Cambridge staff members to Stonecreek Church, located behind the Cambridge campus, for a gathering to remember Reagan. At all times, students will be supervised by Cambridge administrators, counselors, and teachers.
Tonight and in the coming days, I encourage you to talk to your children about their feelings and experiences and encourage them to seek support from our counseling staff if appropriate.
This week we will ensure our counselors are available to talk with students as needed. If your child needs assistance, please feel free to contact his/her counselor or administrator.
