NYPD Officer Miosotis Familia, a 48-year-old mother of three, was “assassinated” in an ambush attack by parolee Alexander Bonds, who was later shot and killed during a shoot-out with police.
Familia, a 12-year veteran of the force, was murdered in the early-morning hours on Wednesday as she sat in her squad car with her partner in the Bronx.
Police say Alexander Bonds approached the vehicle and fired a single shot through the window, hitting Familia in the head. She was pronounced deceased a short time later.
NYPD commissioner James O’Neill said Familia was “assassinated” in an unprovoked attack. Police said the handgun Bonds, 34, used to kill Familia had been stolen in 2013, ABC News reported.
