Tracy Sin-Yee Tam has been identified as the doctor gunned down by Dr. Henry Bello in a Bronx hospital shooting on Friday.
Bello, 45, pulled out an AM-15 assault rifle hidden under his lab coat and began firing at Bronx Lebanon Hospital, where he formerly worked, killing Tam and wounding six others before committing suicide. Of the six people wounded, one remains in critical condition.
PIX 11 reports hospital officials said Tam was not scheduled to work, but was asked to cover one of the physicians who was out.”
“She normally works in the clinic and yesterday she was asked to cover one of the physicians who was out,” Dr. Sridhar Chilimuri, the hospital’s physician-in-chief, told the station. “She was on the floor at that time” when she was gunned down by Bello.
“This hospital terminated my road to a licensure to practice medicine,” Bello wrote to NY Daily News. “First, I was told it was because I always kept to myself. Then it was because of an altercation with a nurse,” he continued.
