Arlington TX Police Officer David Vo Commits Suicide Amid FBI Probe

Arlington TX police officer David Vo, at the center of an investigation, committed suicide near his home Tuesday afternoon. Officer Thomas Kantzos was arrested by the FBI on Tuesday as part of the same investigation. David Vo was arrested last weekend and released pending charges.

A third employee of the police department, Officer Craig Hermans, 34, was placed on administrative leave after being questioned in connection with the criminal probe.

“Criminal misconduct by our employees is intolerable as it damages the trust and confidence of those we serve,” said Arlington Police Chief Will D. Johnson in a written statement. “We will always aggressively pursue the arrest and prosecution of any employee engaged in this sort of behavior.”

Officer Kantzos was featured in a Twitter post by the department last December that listed him as a patrol training officer. His message for the community?

Former Sesame Street puppeteer Kevin Clash has been hit with a fifth lawsuit. Kevin Kiadii filed papers in Manhattan federal court Tuesday, alleging he met Clash in 2004, when he was just 16. He alleges he “went on a gay telephone chat line to meet friends who were also gay.”

“Clash invited Kiadii to come to his apartment in Manhattan,” and sent a luxury car service to pick the teen up in Brooklyn, the filing says.

When he got to Clash’s pad, the puppeteer plied him with “alcohol and groomed him with attention and affection,” the suit says. They then “engaged in sexual contact,” the suit says.

The filing says the encounter caused Kiadii “mental, psychological and emotional trauma,” and says he’s only suing now because “he was not immediately aware of his injuries.” Source

FL Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll Resigns Amid Federal Probe into Internet Cafes(Photo credit: Wikipedia)

BREAKING NEWS:  Florida Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll resigns over a federal investigation into an internet cafe company to which she has ties. The cafes allegedly have ties to gambling.  Jennifer Carroll is involved because a firm she owned, 3N & JC did consulting work for Allied Veterans and she previously starred in a commercial for the organization in 2010.  This is a mighty fall for a woman who insulted lesbians after being allegedly accused of having a tryst with another woman.

Carroll’s resignation was announced Wednesday, one day after she gave her resignation letter to Gov. Rick Scott. His chief of staff, Adam Hollingsworrth, said her resignation was spurred by an investigation into the Allied Veterans of the World.

Officials from that non-profit internet cafe company were recently arrested on racketeering charges. The owner was arrested Tuesday in connection to allegations that he made $290 million after supplying illegal gambling software in Florida and claiming the games’ proceeds would benefit a veterans group. Authorities also interviewed Carroll.

Carroll’s ties to the company were questioned when she was in the Legislature when she proposed a bill that would benefit Internet cafes. Source

The Florida Times Union reports the Allied Veterans investigation isn’t the only bad press Jennifer Carroll has had:

In 2011, the Times-Union reported that Carroll used falsified documents to make her firm eligible for a Jacksonville program that offers grants to minority-owned companies. Her firm was located in Clay County, but relied, in part, on falsified lease documents to appear based in Jacksonville, which was a program requirement.

Additionally, former Carroll aide Carletha Cole was arrested after being charged with giving a reporter a recording of a secret conversation between her and Carroll’s chief-of-staff.

The case has brought a lot of unwanted attention to the Scott administration. In court filings, Cole has accused Carroll of having an inappropriate relationship with another female staff member.

Politico:  The president of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology announced Sunday that he has ordered a top-to-bottom review of the university’s actions in a computer hacking case that led to the federal prosecution of renowed programmer and web activist Aaron Swartz, who killed himself last week as he awaited a federal trial on 13 felony counts.

“Now is a time for everyone involved to reflect on their actions, and that includes all of us at MIT,” MIT President L. Rafael Reif said in an email sent to the university community Sunday afternoon and relayed to POLITICO by an MIT spokesperson.

Reif said he had asked a computer science and electrical engineering progfessor at the Cambridge, Mass. school, Hal Abelson, “to lead a thorough analysis of MIT’s involvement from the time that we first perceived unusual activity on our network in fall 2010 up to the present.”

“I have asked that this analysis describe the options MIT had and the decisions MIT made, in order to understand and to learn from the actions MIT took. I will share the report with the MIT community when I receive it,” Reif added.

Washington Metropolitan Police Department have launched a probe of “Meet the Press” host David Gregory and the 30-round magazine he held up during last Sunday’s broadcast, with NRA’s executive vice president Wayne LaPierre as his guest.

Politico:  Washington Metropolitan Police Department is investigating whether any city laws were violated when NBC’s David Gregory displayed what appeared to be a 30-round gun magazine on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday, a spokesman confirmed to POLITICO. “The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating this matter,” said police officer and spokesman Araz Alali in an interview Tuesday.

“There are D.C. code violations, D.C. code restrictions on guns, ammunition. We are investigating this matter. Beyond the scope of that, I can’t comment any further,” he said.

The right wing is whigging out about the incident, quite unperturbed by the gist of his argument, whether or not a smaller clip would have meant less lives lost in the Newtown school shooting or any other mass shooting. Maybe David Gregory was in violation of the law, but I scarcely believe he was in possession of the rifle that the magazine needed to be attached to. Has anyone stopped to think that there is a real possibility that the magazine in question was an empty one or one that was not fully loaded? It will be interesting to see how this plays out in the coming weeks.

UPDATE#1 (12/26/2012): The  Washington Post reports “NBC News asked D.C. police for permission to use a high-capacity ammunition clip as a prop on Sunday’s “Meet the Press” show, a request District authorities said Wednesday they denied.”

“But host David Gregory appears to have used one anyway — and then displayed it on national television. Now D.C. police say they’re investigating whether the District’s gun laws were violated in the incident.”

Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, Alleged Mastermind Behind Anti-Islam Film, Taken in for Police Questioning

Nakoula Basseley Nakoula questioned by federal authorities

Rick Santorum Says “Smart People Will Never Be On Our Side” (Photo credit: Daily Mail)

Innocence of Muslims filmmaker Nakoula Basseley Nakoula was taken in for questioning by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies just after midnight Friday. It is believed that Nakoula Basseley Nakoula is in fact Sam Bacile, the man tied to the movie, which sparked widespread protests in the Middle East, where U.S. embassies were targeted, possibly contributing to the deaths of Ambassador Chris Stevens, Sean Smith, Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods, who were ambushed at the embassy in Benghazi. Right wing blogs are going nuts. One in particular, Instapundit’s Glenn Reynolds accused President Obama of sending in “brownshirted enforcers,” AKA Nazi paramilitary-types, to question a man who’s on probation for bank fraud. Power Line is puking right wing venom. It’s a little comical.

Seems like Nakoula Basseley Nakoula is a little punk because he hid his face with a towel and hat as he was escorted by police into a waiting car. LA County Sheriff’s department spokesman Steve Whitmore told NBC4 that deputies assisting the federal probation department took Nakoula to the sheriff’s substation in Cerritos for interviewing. LA Now reports that as of 1:40 a.m. Saturday, Nakoula has not been arrested or detained.

Big Sis Janet Napolitano is hit with another lawsuit again. This time, the Department of Homeland Security chief is being sued by Sunil Walia, an Indian-born Sikh, who works as an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent, alleging he was removed from his post interviewing suspicious travelers at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City after he filed a series of employment-discrimination lawsuit.

Sunil Walia alleges he was denied a shot at a job with the elite Joint Terrorism Task Force earlier this year because he was reassigned in 2010 to a downtown Manhattan officer, where his job entails “administrative immigration matters.” Walia needed to have two or more years in their current assignment to be eligible for the elite post. Sunil Walia’s lawsuit was filed in Brooklyn federal court and seeks $2.5 million in damages for alleged discrimination and retaliation.

Obama Supporter, NY Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, Investigating Bain Capital for Tax Avoidance

GOLDEN, CO - AUGUST 02: Republican presidentia...

Uh oh:  New York attorney general Eric T. Schneiderman “is investigating whether some of the nation’s biggest private equity firms have abused a tax strategy in order to slice hundreds of millions of dollars from their tax bills,” the New York Times reports. Guess what? Bain Capital, which GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney founded is among the companies being investigated.

The investigation centers on whether more than a dozen firms, including Bain Capital,  “converted certain management fees collected from their investors into fund investments, which are taxed at a far lower rate than ordinary income.”

Among the firms to receive subpoenas are Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Company, TPG Capital, Sun Capital Partners, Apollo Global Management, Silver Lake Partners and Bain Capital, which was founded by Mitt Romney, the Republican nominee for president. Representatives for the firms declined to comment on the inquiry.

Mr. Schneiderman’s investigation will intensify scrutiny of an industry already bruised by the campaign season, as President Obama and the Democrats have sought to depict Mr. Romney through his long career in private equity as a businessman who dismantled companies and laid off workers while amassing a personal fortune estimated at $250 million. It should be noted Eric Schneiderman is a Democrat, so there will be talk of this investigation being used as a political ploy to embarrass Mitt Romney and the Republicans.

WTF: Twitter User Accuses Obama Administration of Assassinating LA Coroner’s Official Michael Cromier Over Andrew Breitbart Probe

Los Angeles Coroner’s official Michael Cormier died last week and sources cited by the Los Angeles Times, state law enforcement officials believe Cormier may have been poisoned. Well, the story is making the rounds on Twitter, with many under the impression that Cormier was responsible for investigating the cause of conservative blogger Andrew Breitbart’s death.

Of course, President Obama is accused for assassinating Andrew Breitbart and Michael Cromier in one tweet:

There is no evidence tying Michael Cormier to the investigation of Andrew Breitbart’s death. It just shows how things, flawed or inconclusive, take root and spread like wild fire on Twitter. Too many people are elevating Andrew Breitbart to a status of such importance that the Obama administration would go out of its way to kill him. That’s just not so.
