I came across an article written by Dr. Patrick Johnston in the Zanesville Times Recorder that makes the case that the effects of slavery wasn’t the worse thing for black Americans — single motherhood and abortions are. He states that there are “more black men in prison today than were enslaved in 1850.” Wow, so does that excuse the scourge of slavery? Um, if I were patient of Dr. Patrick Johnston I would think twice about someone making such a reckless correlation between a woman’s reproductive rights and being enslaved. There’s more:

Our government’s remedy, however, has been to prescribe more of the poison. Our government has legalized, legitimized, and subsidized adultery and fornication, making it more profitable to be a deadbeat dad than a committed father and husband. As the stunning movie “Maafa 21: Black Genocide in 21st Century America” reveals, it was Margaret Sanger’s racism and fondness for eugenics that motivated her to set up government-funded Planned Parenthood birth control and abortion clinics in minority neighborhoods in this country. She considered immigrants and blacks to be “human weeds, reckless breeders, spawning… human beings who should never have been born.” Planned Parenthood got $487.4 million in taxpayer funds in 2012. About 80 percent of Planned Parenthood offices are in minority neighborhoods.

That brings us to the most devastating statistic in the African-American community. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, black women account for 13 percent of the total U.S. female population but undergo more than one-third of all abortions. If those black babies had been allowed to be born, the black population would be 50 percent larger. Abortion is the leading cause of death in the African-American population. Source

Dr. Patrick Johnston, who has a family medical practice, is also the founder of the Muskingum County Association of Pro-Life Physicians. I don’t expect him to say otherwise, but it is reckless to suggest that slavery wasn’t as devastating to the black community and somehow abortions are. I wonder if he would feel the same way if his ancestors were shackled and treated as three-fifths of a person? What Dr. Patrick Johnston has attempted to do is used veiled racism to say black women are too stupid to make decisions on their bodies. The dumbing-down of America continues…..

GOP Senate Candidate Richard Mourdock Says Pregnancy During Rape is Something God Intended

Here’s another Republican trying to impose his views on abortion on women — Indiana Senate candidate Richard Mourdock said Tuesday when a woman gets pregnant during a rape, “it’s something God intended.” Wow, Richard Mourdock is giving rapists some self-worth. First Rep. Todd Akin with his comment that legitimate rape rarely leads to pregnancy because the woman’s body has mechanisms to shut it down. Um, right. This is problematic for the Romney campaign because it shows just how out of touch the GOP is with women’s rights. So much for helping Middle Eastern women get some rights.

Mourdock, who’s been locked in a tight race with Democratic challenger Rep. Joe Donnelly, was asked during the final minutes of a debate whether abortion should be allowed in cases of rape or incest.

“I struggled with it myself for a long time, but I came to realize that life is that gift from God. And, I think, even when life begins in that horrible situation of rape, that it is something that God intended to happened,” Mourdock said. Source

Richard Mourdock is trying to ride whatever coattails he believes Mitt Romney has and the GOP presidential candidate appears in a new ad with him.

QUOTE OF THE DAY:  “With modern technology and science, you can’t find one instance… There is no such exception as life of the mother, and as far as health of the mother, same thing.”

Rep. Joe Walsh (R-IL), as quoted by WGN, saying that he was against abortion “without exception” because it’s no longer medically necessary to conduct an abortion to save the life of a mother. Um, really?

Rep. Todd Akin (R-MO) says Prsident Obama doesn’t like America. Here we go again. Another Republican attacking President Obama’s patriotism and trying to label him as foreigner. This is utter nonsense. It’s coming from the pariah of the Republican Party, who said legitimate rape doesn’t lead to pregnancy since a woman’s body has mechanisms to avert pregnancy. He is a reminder of what people hate about the Republican Party. Keep talking teabag! Questioning Obama’s patriotism backfires every time the Republican Party ventures into that racist territory. Mitt Romney’s ‘bold’ vice presidential pick Rep. Paul Ryan will speak Wednesday night at the Republican National Convention in Tampa. The Obama campaign offers their own take Ryan in an interesting, but hard-hitting campaign ad.

Politico: “The video harkens back to the newsreel days of old, using grainy, black-and-white footage to try and portray the GOP vice presidential nominee as a throwback to a bygone era.”

PA Senate Candidate Tom Smith Says Daughter’s Out-Of-Wedlock Pregnancy Similar to Rape

PA Senate Candidate Tom Smith Says Daughter’s Out-Of-Wedlock Pregnancy Similar to Rape

Another Republican has put his foot in his mouth on women’s issues. Pennsylvania Senate candidate Tom Smith said his daughter’s out of wedlock pregnancy was similar to rape. Smith was trying to give his two cents on Rep. Todd Akin’s legitimate rape comment.

“What that congressman said I do not agree with at all. He should have never said anything like that,” Smith told reporters Monday, according to the Harrisburg Patriot-News, during a Pennsylvania Press Club luncheon in Harrisburg Monday — referring to Akin’s suggestion that women’s bodies can block a pregnancy from rape.

“I lived something similar to that with my own family,” Smith said. He then described his daughter’s out-of-wedlock pregnancy — from consensual sex.

“She chose life, and I commend her for that. She knew my views but fortunately for me … she chose the way I thought. Now don’t get me wrong. It wasn’t rape.” Source:  Talking Points Memo

So, out of wedlock pregnancy is now similar to rape, according to the Republican Party. Unbelievable.

Here’s the full transcript of Tom Smith’s comments:

MARK SCOLFORO, ASSOCIATED PRESS: How would you tell a daughter or a granddaughter who, God forbid, would be the victim of a rape, to keep the child against her own will? Do you have a way to explain that?

SMITH: I lived something similar to that with my own family. She chose life, and I commend her for that. She knew my views. But, fortunately for me, I didn’t have to.. she chose they way I thought. No don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t rape.

SCOLFORO: Similar how?

SMITH: Uh, having a baby out of wedlock.

SCOLFORO: That’s similar to rape?

SMITH: No, no, no, but… put yourself in a father’s situation, yes. It is similar. But, back to the original, I’m pro-life, period. Source:  Think Progress

President Obama slams Mitt Romney, who is fresh off his birther joke, saying he would sing language like the GOP platform plank on abortion, which includes no mention of exceptions for rape, incest or a threat to the life of the mother — into law if he is elected president.

“I don’t think that if Congress presented him with some of the items that are in the Republican platform at this convention that would, for example, entirely roll back women’s control over their reproductive health, that he would stand in the way,” President Obama told the Associated Press in a recent interview.

Obama also said:  “I can’t speak to Governor Romney’s motivations,” Obama said. “What I can say is that he has signed up for positions, extreme positions, that are very consistent with positions that a number of House Republicans have taken. And whether he actually believes in those or not, I have no doubt that he would carry forward some of the things that he’s talked about.”

QUOTE OF THE DAY:  “Just because a law is on the books does not mean that it’s lawful.”

— New Hampshire County GOP Sheriff candidate Frank Szabo (R), quoted by Bedford Patch, has refused to walk-back comments that deadly force is an appropriate means to prevent abortion.

He compared abortion to slavery:  “It used to be legal to own slaves, but that didn’t make it lawful. It used to be legal to restrict someone of color to the back of bus … Just because a piece of legislation says it’s legal to murder the unborn doesn’t make it lawful.”

I just love how women’s rights are being attacked and the female Republican lawmakers seem to have caught a bad case of laryngitis, since we haven’t heard peep out of any of them. Just a bunch of rich white men telling women what to do with their bodies.

Bloomberg:  Since Mitt Romney’s ‘bold’ vice presidential pick, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), was first elected in 1998, he “hasn’t voted against any bills backed by the National Right to Life Committee. The group gives him a lifetime voting score of 100 percent.”

The same group scored Rep. Todd Akin (R-MO), who put his foot in his mouth with the ‘legitimate rape’ comments (which is most likely shared by Paul Ryan on policies)  “at 90 percent support during one of his six terms and at 100 percent for the rest of his tenure. Akin cosponsored every abortion bill supported by Ryan in the almost 12 years the two Republicans have served together in Washington.”
