#inaug2013:  President Obama’s second term quietly starts today, January 20, 2013. He will be sworn in privately about 11:55 a.m. Sunday and will have a public swearing-in Monday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

New York Times:  ”President Obama will be quietly sworn into office for a second term just before noon on Sunday in a brief White House ceremony, a day before Monday’s far showier public inaugural events, adhering to a long tradition of doing so out of the public eye when Jan. 20 falls on a Sunday.”

“The oath is to be administered by Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. in the Blue Room, an elegant, gilded space with a sweeping view of the South Lawn. The bare-bones ceremony, typically lasting no more than three minutes, will satisfy the constitutional requirement that the president’s swearing-in take place by noon on the Jan. 20 after an election.”

Washington Post: “The day began with a morning swearing-in ceremony for Vice President Joe Biden, committing him to four more years as the nation’s second in command. Biden then joined the president at Arlington National Cemetery for a wreath-laying ceremony on a crisp, sun-splashed January day.”

VP Joe Biden’s swearing-in occurred at 8:21 a.m. at his residence at the Naval Observatory with his family. He was sworn in by Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor. According to the pool report, after taking the oath, he kissed Justice Sotomayor and told her it was a honor. Here’s a photograph that will rile neo-cons:

In writing opinion, John Roberts said:

‘Congress had the power to impose the exaction in Section 5000A under the taxing power, and that Section 5000A need not be read to do more than impose a tax. This is sufficient to sustain it.’

House Speaker (Orange Drama Queen) John Boehner releases statement:

“The president’s health care law is hurting our economy by driving up health costs and making it harder for small businesses to hire.  Today’s ruling underscores the urgency of repealing this harmful law in its entirety.  What Americans want is a common-sense, step-by-step approach to health care reform that will protect Americans’ access to the care they need, from the doctor they choose, at a lower cost.  Republicans stand ready to work with a president who will listen to the people and will not repeat the mistakes that gave our country ObamaCare.”

LMAO: Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA) releases statement saying the House plans to vote to repeal Obamacare during the week of July 9. Good luck. That won’t happen.

Meet new Associate Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, much to the dismay of Senator Jeff Sessions and company! Sotomayor, 55, is the first Hispanic justice and only the third woman in the court’s 220-year history.

She took the second of two oaths of office from Chief Justice John Roberts in a conference room, beneath a portrait of the legendary Chief Justice John Marshall. Her left hand resting on a Bible that was held by her mother, Celina, Sotomayor pledged to “do equal right to the poor and to the rich.”

The oath that Justice Sotomayor took in private is prescribed by the Constitution and required of all federal officials. The second oath, which was taken in front of a television audience, is spelled out in the 220-year-old federal law that established the federal court system.
