SHOCK: The family of Luis Rodriguez have accused three Oklahoma police officers of beating the father-of-five to death after they requested his identification during a family dispute. The officers have been placed on administrative leave.
Luis Rodriguez was detained by police after he tried to chase his wife, Nair, following an altercation she had with their daughter outside a movie theater. Nair told News 9 that she had slapped her daughter after a fight and that her husband was simply trying to keep her from driving away upset. That’s when the officers asked Luis Rodriguez for identification.
Nair and their daughter, Lunahi, said Luis Rodriguez tried to bypass several officers to prevent her from leaving the scene. The women said the situation turned grave after he was beaten as he laid on the ground.
Lunahi told News 9, “When they flipped him over you could see all the blood on his face, it was… he was disfigured, you couldn’t recognize him.” “My mom was taking a video and asking, ‘What are they doing this for? Why?’ And they didn’t give really an explanation.”
Nair told News 9, “I knew he was dead,” when she saw them take his body out on a stretcher. She said he [Luis Rodriguez] was trying to defuse the fight. She said, “I told them I hit her and he was just trying to reach me.” “Why didn’t they arrest me,” she asked.
NewsOk reports that the officers on the scene were two on-duty Moore policemen, one off-duty officer and two off-duty game wardens.
