PORT ORANGE MURDER-SUICIDE: A father and two children are dead, third child in critical condition in Port Orange shooting. The Volusia County Sheriff Ben Johnson said the man shot his kids and turned the gun on himself in an apparent double murder-suicide stemming from a domestic dispute at a home located at 1927 Jackson Lane, Port Orange.
Police have not released the names of the victims, but property records show the five-bedroom home was purchased by David and Cynthia Mahoney in 2010.
Police say the woman fled to a neighbor’s home to get help before the argument with her husband turned deadly. She told the neighbor her husband had threatened her with a gun. Moments later, gunshots rang out. Police were called to the home at about 5:11 a.m. Friday.
Police say the couple’s two oldest children and their father were killed; a 9-year-old girl is in critical condition at a local hospital. David and Cynthia Mahoney had moved to Florida from South Dakota. They had filed for divorce and a temporary injunction had been served in June. According to the divorce papers, they have three kids — David, Lauren and Savanna.
