Cobb County Police File New Warrant in Justin Ross Harris Murder Case

Cobb County police have filed a new warrant in the Justin Ross Harris murder case. He allegedly left his 22-month-old son, Cooper Harris, in his SUV for seven hours while he went to work at Home Depot.

The warrant alleges Harris went back to the SUV on his lunch break and should have seen the child still sitting in his car seat. The warrant states, “During lunch said accused did access the same vehicle through the driver’s side door to place an object into the vehicle. Said accused then closed the door and left the car, re-entering his place of business.”

For all those people who called for leniency towards Justin Ross Harris, please give the police a chance to do their job and release their findings. There seems to be more to this case than this man forgetting his son in his SUV.

The updated warrant shows Harris and his son stopped for breakfast at Chick-Fil-A before he went to work. The AJC reports Harris put his son back in the car and then they drove to his office less than a mile away, the warrant states.

The cruelty to children charge has been downgraded to second degree, which is still a felony, but it implies that the investigators do not believe there was criminal intent.

Clarkson Ex-Soccer Coach Oral ‘Nick’ Hillary Charged with Murder After Suing Potsdam

Jamaican national Oral ‘Nick’ Hillary sued the city of Potsdam, NY, for false arrest and unlawful search after he was detained in 2011 in connection to the murder of 12-year-old Garrett Phillips, who is white. Now he has been charged with murder, in a move his lawyer, Mani Tafari, characterizes as punishment for the lawsuit.

Hillary, who was recently fired as Clarkson University’s men’s soccer coach, believes he is being held without bail for the murder charge because a black man dared to sue the town and its police department.

Garrett Phillips was found strangled to death in the apartment his mother, an ex-police officer whom Oral ‘Nick’ Hillary had previously dated. Tafari said the police descended on Hillary’s home within minutes of Phillips’ death and kept him under surveillance for two days before he was taken into custody for questioning.

Tafari also said Hillary’s name was leaked to the press as a police suspect, though he was released without being charged. He then filed a federal civil rights lawsuit because for the false arrest and unlawful search.

According to the complaint filed in New York Supreme Court, Hillary was asked to go to the police station on October 24, 2011, after 7:45 a.m. for questioning. He was prevented from leaving for work. The complaint alleges that his cell phone was “forcefully confiscated” and he was placed in a holding area until 5:00 p.m. before he was released.

The complaint alleges police denied his request to get his wallet and keys when he was eventually allowed to leave the station. His lawyer said he was “forced to leave the station dressed only in a hazard material suit, without access to his home, transportation, identification and money,” the Jamaica Observer reports.

The Potsdam police also reportedly met with Hillary’s assistant coach at Clarkson University and named him as a suspect in Garrett Phillips’ murder. His young daughter was also barred from entering his home, the complaint alleges.

It seems really suspect that Oral ‘Nick’ Hillary wasn’t charged with Garrett Phillips’ murder until two years later, when he filed a lawsuit against the town and the police department. Why didn’t the police question the other ex-boyfriends of the teen’s mother? Tafari said there was no eyewitness or DNA evidence linking Hillary to the murder. He said, “He has an alibi and yet he is being prosecuted.” Oral ‘Nick’ Hillary was charged with second degree murder and is being held on $150,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in court on May 30.

Oral ‘Nick’ Hillary was a soccer star at St. Lawrence University and coached there until taking the position at Clarkson. He graduated from Samuel J. Tilden High School in Brooklyn in 1993. Is the U.S. justice system failing yet another black male?
