Bad News for Obama as Unemployment Rose in 44 States for July, Rates Fell in Only 2 States

Possible trouble for Obama as unemployment rose in 44 states for the month of July, the most states to show a monthly increase in more than three years and a reflection of weak hiring nationwide, USA Today reports.

The Labor Department said Friday that unemployment rates fell in only two states and were unchanged in four.

Unemployment rates rose in nine states that are considered battlegrounds in the presidential election. That trend, if it continued, could pose a threat to President Barack Obama’s re-election bid in less than three months.

Nationwide, hiring improved in July after three months of tepid job gains. But the national unemployment rate ticked up to 8.3% from 8.2%. Monthly job gains have averaged 150,000 this year. That’s barely enough to accommodate population growth. As a result, the unemployment rate is the same as when the year began. Source

If the Obama team goes into November with these numbers, they could lose the elections, that’s from a historical standpoint. Mitt Romney is a very weak candidate, but like 2008, people were willing to try anyone other than a Bush. If this continues, Mitt Romney’s tax return problem may not be as important to many as an improving economy.

Mitt Romney Says Waiters Serving Guests at Fundraiser “Not Having a Good Year”

GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney tells guests at $2,500, $10,000 and $50,000 per person fundraiser at the River Hills Club in Jackson that he feels the pain of the waiters and waitresses serving them refreshments and says they are not having a “good year” thanks to President Obama. SMH. Golden.

CBS:  “It’s tough being middle class in America right now,” Romney said. “The waiters and waitresses that come in and out of this room and offer us refreshments, they’re not having a good year. The people of the middle class of America are really struggling. And they’re struggling I think in a way because they’re surprised because when they voted for Barack Obama…he promised them that things were going to get a heck a lot of better. He promised hope and change and they’re still waiting.”

[..]

“The key to financial success, he said, it “economic freedom.” Romney regularly contends that Obama’s economic policies – which he describes as higher taxes and more regulations – are stifling innovation and entrepreneurship that drive the U.S economy.”

Um, so Mitt Romney with all his offshore interests, outsourcing history and general aloofness to Main Street is now trying to sell a bag of goods saying that he cares about the waiters and waitresses not having a good year? I guess Obama should have retroactively handed out thousands of dollars to all waiters and waitresses across the U.S. at the risk of being called a modern-day Robin Hood. Oh, wait, they already call him a Socialist…..

GOP Attacks on Obama for Politicizing Osama Bin Laden Assassination Only Helps Him, Remember 9/11?

GOP ATTACKS ON OBAMA:  I am amazed at how quickly Republicans forgot how the Bush 2004 reelection campaign blanketed the airwaves with the events of 9/11, so much so that people were literally hoodwinked into voting for George W. Bush. They saw nothing wrong with that tactic but now that President Obama is milking the Osama bin Laden assassination, they are screaming “off with his head.” Politics is just a dirty game and voters like you and I are used as pawns.

While I found the campaign video playing up the Osama bin Laden assassination somewhat distasteful, it is nonetheless politics and if the shoe were on the other foot, the Republicans would do the same as they did in 2004. GOP attacks on Obama will only help him at the polls and continue to prove that Mitt Romney is like a deer caught between two headlights on foreign policy. A little like his dog Seamus on the top of the family station wagon with all that wind smacking him in the face.

Mark McKinnon: “Just as it would have been absurd for the Bush campaign not to mention 9/11 in our 2004 reelection launch. In fact, all we did in our ads was say we faced some unexpected challenges and showed some images of 9/11. And we were crucified by the Democrats… And now, how dare Obama exploit OBL for political purposes, say Republicans today.”

“When Democrats went crazy about our 9/11 ad in 2004, all they did was bring more attention to the message we were trying to communicate. Which is precisely the trap Republicans are falling into today.”

Possible New Job for President Obama as He Sings Line from Al Green’s “Le’t Stay Together” at Apollo Theater

It seems that President Obama may have a new revenue stream if he loses reelection — singing. President Obama sang a line from Al Green’s popular song “Let’s Stay Together” and the crowd at the Apollo Theater Thursday night, where he was campaigning in one of four New York City fundraiser events, loved it. God knows if he can carry a tune in a half-way decent manner, he can get a record deal.
