I knew it wouldn’t be long before former GOP presidential candidate Rick Santorum put his foot in his mouth by saying the government is forcing Catholics to sin. Um, really Rick, like blacks on welfare?

First Read:  Former presidential hopeful Rick Santorum said Wednesday that President Barack Obama is “directly assaulting” religious freedom and that his administration has implemented policies that force Catholics to abandon their faith.

“We have a president who, for the first time in American history, is directly assaulting the First Amendment and freedom of religion,” Santorum said. “He is going to tell you what to do in the practice of your faith. He is forcing business people right now to do things that are against their conscience, that they will have to – if you’re a Catholic – you’ll have to go to confession … to confess that you are complying with a government program that is a sin in the Catholic Church.”

This is the Republican gaffe-machine, whose comments will no doubt tick someone off, as the furor over his insulting the black community. Um, since Joe Biden’s “put y’all in chains” comment enraged many on the right, how about the left speaking up against the veiled racist dig by Rick Santorum about Obama “assaulting” the First Amendment. Angry black man?

Conservative Group, ‘Jews and Christians Together’ Sending Dump Romney Memo to RNC Delegates (Buzzfeed)

Dump Romney:  A group called “Jews and Christians Together” is sending a memo to Republican National Convention delegates urging them not to vote for Mitt Romney at the convention, even if they’re bound to him, Buzzfeed reports.

What if Mitt Romney is not inevitable at Tampa? What if his nomination makes four more years for President Obama all but inevitable? What if it’s true that, despite Obama’s governing ineptitude, the Republican frontrunner is already losing the Electoral College in a rout which threatens GOP Senate prospects in the overlapping swing states? And, what if that’s before all the ugly stuff really hits the fan?

Few Tampa delegates have had any disclosure on the racially-toxic texts to which Willard M. Romney is tied – and which he has yet to repudiate; same with the anti-Semitic writings. No disclosure, either, on Romney’s role as America’s Founding Father of Gay Marriage, the reason Obama could safely come out. Without a Tampa game-changer, we’ll soon see how it all ties in to Romney’s Big Problem, the core reason he can’t carry the toss-ups.

“Purple State” voters already get it that ObamaCare is simply coercive RomneyCare writ large – each a punitive tax program for nonetheless bankrupting new entitlements, each illustrating why neither author should be President. This fall, however, left-allied media will also be spinning our “No Apologies” social engineer, quite plausibly, as a liar and loony: For a catalog of troubling character issues, click The Romney Files or this Romney robo-audio; they’re examples of what millions of voters have already been receiving in battleground states like MI, WI, PA and OH – and partly why, despite a weak economy and incumbent, Romney’s already losing the Electoral College so badly.

[...]

And, it’s within the power of Tampa’s delegates to dump Romney. (See page 77). He can’t win. Or more precisely, after months of campaigning, at a time when the U.S. economy is at its lowest point in decades, and against one of the most inept Presidents in U.S. history, if Romney’s trailing as badly as he is now… the odds are very long he can close this fall.

Fox News Poll Shows Obama Widening Lead Over Presumptive GOP Presidential Nominee Mitt Romney

Fox News reports that Obama’s lead over Mitt Romney is widening. Um, this must have been really hard for them to report, considering people like Sean Hannity, Gretchen Carlson, Steve Doocy, Brian Kilmeade, Mike Huckabee and Bill O’Reilly, as well their so-called pundits, can’t bear the thought of Obama much less dropping his name on the set.

The president would take 49 percent of the vote compared to Romney’s 40 percent in a head-to-head matchup if the election were held today, the poll found. Last month, Obama had a four percentage-point edge of 45 percent to 41 percent. This marks the second time this year the president has had a lead outside the poll’s margin of sampling error.

Obama’s advantage comes largely from increased support among independents, who now pick him over Romney by 11 percentage points. Some 30 percent of independents are undecided. Last month, Obama had a four-point edge among independents, while Romney had the advantage from April through early June.

There was also an uptick in support for Obama among women, blacks and Democrats. Source

A CNN poll also shows Obama leading Romney, holding a seven-point lead. Some scoffed at Nate Silver’s assessment earlier this week that Obama could win by a landslide. While I don’t think that will be the case, I do think he will manage to win reelection, barring any scandals. Mitt Romney was bloodied by Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich during the primary season and Obama just picked up where they left off. They defined Mitt Romney even before the Obama team got to him.

Is Mitt Romney Forgetting the First Rule of Politics to Define Oneself Before Opponent Does?

Is presumptive GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney forgetting the first rule of politics to define oneself before the opponent does? Um, he can’t define himself because he is out of touch with just about every American on Main Street and in line with people like David Koch. That’s evident from one of his donors in the Hamptons saying “lower income people don’t understand what’s going on,” according to Think Progress.

The Note: “One of the first rules of politics is to define yourself before your opponent does it for you. The Obama campaign has made this its mantra with a relentless focus on making Mitt Romney out to be something of a cross between Gordon Gekko and George W. Bush.”

Mitt Romney was largely ignored during the 2008 presidential campaign when voters chose John McCain over him. He didn’t define himself then and he hasn’t done so during the 2012 campaign. Former presidential candidates Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich dinged him pretty bad, painting him as a) the worst Republican candidate to go up against Obama in the general elections; and b) as someone who fired many workers during his stint as CEO of Bain Capital.

The Obama campaign and the Democratic National Committee are just picking up where Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich left off. Mitt Romney hasn’t “walked the real streets” of America as he claims, otherwise, he would have defined himself from the 2008 presidential campaign. One thing I know is that he’s a very liberal Republican masquerading as an ultra conservative to get votes. Mitt Romney = RINO.

White House Admits Asking News Media to Pull Stories on Malia Obama Mexican Vacation

URGENT:  The White House has admitted to telling news agencies to pull stories on Malia Obama visiting the Mexico for spring break, Politico reports.  Rick Santorum is weighing in, saying that President Obama should “set an example.” Personally, I would not have sent my 14 year old son on spring break in any foreign country, unless I was going to be right there with him.  But that’s my right and choice as a parent. Rick Santorum giving his two cents is laughable. He was upset when people questioned why he and his wife took their dead baby home, supposedly for closure. Well, the Obamas have a right to send their daughter to Mexico on vacation on a school trip. You may not agree with it, but don’t cry foul when you are attacked in the media for your actions.

Kristina Schake, Communications Director to the First Lady, sent the following email to Dylan Byers:

From the beginning of the administration, the White House has asked news outlets not to report on or photograph the Obama children when they are not with their parents and there is no vital news interest. We have reminded outlets of this request in order to protect the privacy and security of these girls.

There’s nothing wrong with a retraction of a news story, but this could have been handled a lot better. The sudden disappearance of the story only added fuel to the fire of controversy and public interest. This would have been a non-story in the past. How many times did we read about where George W. Bush’s children or Chelsea Clinton spent their spring break vacations?  Politicians’ kids should be off-limits, unless they break the law.  I said it when one of George Bush’s daughters were caught using a fake ID. That was a private matter for the parents to deal with. Not the general public.

Rick Santorum Supporter Pastor Dennis Terry Says Take A Stand Against Women Who Have Abortions

Rick Santorum is under fire over right wing pastor Dennis Terry, who told a crowd at Greenwell Springs Baptist Church in Louisiana, that  anyone who doesn’t worship God should leave the country, before calling on people to “stand up” against” gay people, liberals and women who have abortions, the Telegraph reports.

To make matters worse, Rick Santorum was sitting in the audience and was spotted clapping approvingly to this vitriol. He also received the personal blessing of Pastor Dennis Terry, who called on God’s will to be done in the upcoming election. The right wing wants us to worry about President Obama’s associations, such as Breitbart’s hatchet job on Derrick Bell, but they neglect to take a look at the people Rick Santorum is “palling” around with.

“Listen to me. If you don’t love America, and you don’t like the way we do things, I’ve got one thing to say, get out!,” he said. “We don’t worship Buddha, we don’t worship Mohammed, we don’t worship Allah. We worship God. We worship God’s son Jesus Christ.”

To a rapturous applause, Pastor Terry continued: “As long as they continue to kill little babies in our mother’s womb, somebody’s got to take a stand and say it’s not right. God be merciful to us as a nation. As long as sexual perversion is becoming normalised, somebody needs to stand up and say God forgive us, God have mercy upon us.” Source: Telegraph

Rick Santorum is no stranger to controversy, but this latest incident further reinforces the fact that he reeks of hypocrisy from every pore on his body. It’s convenient for him to tell the world how much he values his faith while trampling all over the faith of others with such total disregard for personal freedom. This is also the same person who said he wanted to “throw up” after hearing John F. Kennedy’s speech about the separation of church and state. A vote for Rick Santorum is a vote against personal freedom in this country.

Rick Santorum to Puerto Rico, Speak English if You Want Statehood

puerto rico 300x199 Rick Santorum to Puerto Rico, Speak English if You Want Statehood

Rick Santorum to Puerto Rico, Speak English if You Want Statehood

Rick Santorum is alienating yet another group, Hispanics, by saying if Puerto Rico wants statehood the residents should speak English. Um, Puerto Rico has been a Spanish-speaking island for eons, so they should change because a white, right wing evangelical says so? Puerto Rico was possessed by Spain for more than 400 years, what other language did this idiot expect them to speak?

Rick Santorum is feeling like He-Man, since he won two big primaries in historically racist states — Alabama and Mississippi (which are at the bottom of the barrel educationally speaking, with 29% of Mississippians frowning on interracial marriage). He insists that Puerto Rico should only gain statehood if it makes English its main language.

“As in any other state, you have to comply with this and any federal law. And that is that English has to be the main language,” Santorum told San Juan newspaper El Vocero on Wednesday.

“There are other states with more than one language as is the case in Hawaii, but to be a state in the United States, English has to be the main language,” he added. Source

In other words, Puerto Rico isn’t all that important. You see, there is no oil in Puerto Rico and tourism isn’t such a big deal in his eyes. Had this been, say Kuwait, he wouldn’t give a sh*t if English was their main language or not. Rick Santorum went to Puerto Rico to pander for votes, while insulting the residents at the same time.  He is trying to rewrite the U.S. Constitution, which  does not designate an official language. He is either oblivious or implying that Puerto Ricans are stupid to the fact that there is no requirement that a territory adopt English as its primary language in order to become a state in our Constitution.

Here’s my advice to Republicans and Independents, vote for Rick Santorum to set America back decades, where we had to fight for civil rights and women’s rights.  Rick Santorum seems to think the right wing evangelicals and the blue-collar voters who don’t want a better life for their kids are enough to hand him the nomination and the U.S. presidency. That couldn’t be further from the truth. He has alienated blacks, women and now Hispanics with his holier-than-thou attitude. He  could alienate the 4.2 million Puerto Ricans who live on the U.S. mainland, including nearly 1 million in presidential swing-state Florida.

Democratic Strategist Paul Begala: Mitt Romney “Gone from Inevitable to Unelectable” with Rick Santorum AL, MS Wins

Democratic Strategist Paul Begala: Mitt Romney "Gone from Inevitable to Unelectable" with Rick Santorum AL, MS Wins (New Yorker)

Democratic strategist Paul Begala is calling on Mitt Romney to drop out of the race for the GOP presidential nomination. He has proven that he can’t win the tough states by big margins during the primaries, so imagine if he were to go up against President Obama? Rick Santorum, with all the crazy comments emanating from his lips, is winning primaries in the more conservative states, such as Alabama and Mississippi (though Mississippi is still stuck in the dark ages, with 29% frowning upon interracial marriages).

His take is actually hilarious, but true — Mitt Romney should be strapped like his dog in his doghouse on the top of one of his Cadillacs and be driven off to one of his many mansions. Funny!

Paul Begala: “Let me be the first to call on Mitt Romney to get out of the race. By placing third in Alabama and Mississippi, losing to Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich in both states, Romney has gone from inevitable to unelectable. Somebody strap him to the roof of one of his Cadillacs and drive him off to one of his many mansions.”

“One of the great legends of political consulting is the Dog Food Problem: an apocryphal tale of a company that had the best packaging, the best advertising, the best marketing. But there was only one problem: the dog wouldn’t eat it. Forevermore we should no longer call it a Dog Food Problem. We should call it a Mitt Romney Problem.”

The New Yorker had a picture of Mitt Romney strapping Rick Santorum to the top of his car, it should probably be the other way around. Assailing President Obama isn’t getting Mitt Romney anywhere. People just don’t like this man and don’t trust him. Either way, I have to echo Barbara Bush’s sentiments, this the worst presidential campaign I have seen in a long time.

Rick Santorum Says U.S. Should Apologize to Afghan People Over U.S. Sergeant Massacre

Rick Santorum continues to fight with himself on being a serious presidential candidate. He said that if a U.S. soldier shot and killed 16 civilians, as was the case in Kandahar province, then the people deserve an apology. Say what? Isn’t this the same hombre who said Obama shouldn’t have apologized over soldiers burning copies of Koran.

“If it turns out to be the case that this person did a horrible wrong and it was a deliberate act, a deliberate act by an American soldier and that is something we should clearly say was something that we should apologize for,” Santorum said. “That it’s not a mistake, it wasn’t something that was inadvertent. This was something that was deliberately done by an American soldier to innocent civilians. It’s something that the proper authorities should apologize for, for not doing their job in making sure that something like this wouldn’t happen, something like this should not happen in our military period.” Source: ABC News

Sure Rick Santorum, your credibility is still at stake and you are batting zero. This guy can’t stay on message and some really crazy things emanate from his lips. I am a little confused as to what qualifiers for U.S. apologies to other countries does Rick Santorum use? What makes this case so different from the Quran or President George W. Bush apologizing for a similar occurrence.

Mitt Romney Landed No Knock-Out Punch in Key Ohio Primary, Bruising Battle for Nomination Continues

The bruising battle for the GOP presidential nomination continues and front-runner Mitt Romney just can’t seem to seal the deal. He managed to eke out a win in Ohio 38% to Rick Santorum’s 37%, but it wasn’t a convincing one. He and the other three candidates are very weak and Republican and Independent voters know that. So, after Super Tuesday, the odds of a brokered Republican convention seem to be a real possibility.

New York Times: Mitt Romney won the delegates, but not necessarily the argument.

His quest to win the Republican presidential nomination has always resembled a detailed, methodical business plan. Mr. Romney, who spent much of his life fixing troubled corporations, must now decide whether steps are necessary to repair his lethargic candidacy.

Mr. Romney had hoped that a string of Super Tuesday victories in contests from Vermont to Alaska would effectively bring the Republican race to a close. But he found himself winning over Rick Santorum by only the slimmest of margins with almost all the votes counted in Ohio, the most coveted primary of the night, while losing other contests across the South.

[...]

But the campaign is suddenly bracing for new questions about Mr. Romney’s ability to piece together a coalition needed to move closer to a general election fight with President Obama.

The heart of his case to his fellow Republicans has always been that he is not only the most electable candidate in the field, but also the best prepared and most suited for what is sure to be a brutal general election.

But the outcome of the contests on Tuesday, while allowing him to amass more delegates than any of his rivals, did little to resolve the questions about his ability to connect with voters, especially conservatives.

Shouldn’t there have been a shift in the campaign at this juncture? Surely Mitt Romney should realize that he is in more trouble than he cares to admit. The American voter is fickle on his candidacy. If  wingnut like Rick Santorum can become such a threat to the so-called “most likely candidate to beat Obama,” it follows that the Republican Party will most likely hand the Democrats four more years in the White House.

Rick Santorum was able to win Oklahoma, Tennessee and North Dakota, while Romney carried Ohio (barely), Massachusetts, Idaho, Vermont and Virginia, three of which are heavily Democratic states. His decisive wins aren’t in battleground states or even states that are more conservative and more religious. He seems to have a real problem connecting with blue collar workers. Well, if you want to do that, you don’t set up your campaign headquarters in the affluent Buckhead area of Atlanta, for example.  If you ask me, Rick Santorum was the big winner last night, with his poorly run campaign. That speaks volumes.

First Read: “The answer to that question continues to come down to ideology. According to the exit polls in Ohio, Santorum easily won among very conservatives (48%-30%) and overall conservatives (41%-35%), while Romney won the other ideological subgroups (somewhat conservatives, moderates/liberals). Santorum won Tea Party supporters (39%-36%), while Romney won Tea Party detractors (45%-30%). And Santorum ran up the score with evangelicals (47%-30%). Given that kind of very conservative resistance we’ve seen in other contests — Iowa, South Carolina, Michigan, and Ohio — it’s a tribute to Romney that he remains on track to winning the GOP presidential nomination. But it also explains why he’s unable to pull away from his under-funded and less-organized opposition.”
