R&B singer R. Kelly’s new album, “Write Me Back,” hits stores today and his first single “Feelin’ Single” is a catchy tune that’s bound to climb the charts. His voice is a natural fit for the “giddy” love songs that make up the album, some tinged with the “70s” influence, such as “Love Is” and “Party Jumpin.” There are 16 songs on the album and they really sound like someone who has a genuine appreciation of music and is very mature at this juncture. Not someone just looking for an easy radio hit. On that basis, I would recommend “Write Me Back” as an addition to your music collection.
R. Kelly will be a busy man this summer, with the “Sparkle” soundtrack set to drop July 31, on which he produced “Celebrate,” the uptempo duet between the late Whitney Houston and Jordin Sparks.
Also dropping today:
— Joe Jackson, “The Duke,” a tribute to Duke Ellington, featuring a guest appearance from Sharon Jones.
— Maroon 5, “Overexposed,” I love this group and their clean sounds. This is the band’s fourth album in a decade.
— Linkin Park, “Living Things,” the band says it’s a return to a more familiar sound.
