#BlackLivesMatter activist Shaun King seems to have thrown his mother under a bus much like Rachel Dolezal did to her family when she was outed as a white woman masquerading in blackface. Talk about “Throw Momma from the Train.”
King wrote a lengthy article stating that his mother told him this his father was a “light-skinned black man.” He said, “I refuse to speak in detail about the nature of my mother’s past or her sexual partners and I am gravely embarrassed to even be saying this now…”
… but I have been told for most of my life that the white man on my birth certificate is not my biological father and that my actual biological father is a light-skinned black man. My mother and I have discussed her affair. She was a young woman in a bad relationship and I have no judgment. This has been my lived reality for nearly 30 of my 35 years on earth. I am not ashamed of it, or of who I am—never that—but I was advised by my pastor nearly 20 years ago that this was not a mess of my doing and it was not my responsibility to fix it. All of my siblings and I have different parents. I’m actually not even sure how many siblings I have. It is horrifying to me that my most personal information, for the most nefarious reasons, has been forced out into the open and that my private past and pain have been used as jokes and fodder to discredit me and the greater movement for justice in America. I resent that lies have been reported as truth and that the obviously racist intentions of these attacks have been consistently downplayed at my expense and that of my family….
I am not here to judge this guy, but wouldn’t a simple DNA test help clear up any hearsay? That’s basically what he is going off…hearsay from his mother that his biological father is a “light-skinned” black guy. I wonder why Shaun didn’t take an offer made by black conservative group, the Black Conservative Fund PAC, to donate $25,000 to the Black Lives Matter campaign if King was able to take a DNA test to prove that his father was black. He turned them down. Instead, he opted to throwing Momma from the train, as a woman who slept around and told him about his supposed “light-skinned” dad. You will recall Rachel Dolezal said there was no actual record of her live birth.
MSNBC’s Joy Reid ran to King’s rescue and says the father listed on his birth certificate is not his biological dad. That’s despite CNN’s Don Lemon reporting that a family member said King was indeed white. Reid is kinda going off hearsay too. Unless, she was present for his birth. Who is more credible? Joy Reid or Don Lemon?
I must say that the right wing hate machine will stop at nothing. Remember Shirley Sherrod and the hit-job Andrew Breitbart did on her before he died? It seems that Breitbart is still up to its tricks. Breitbart did get it right with Anthony Weiner though. I still think Shaun King threw his mother under a bus and if he’s truly white, he doesn’t have to portray himself as black to make a difference in the fight for racial equality and justice. Sounds like there are more questions than answers left behind.
