Education Secretary Betsy DeVos is always viewed as a threat to public education and can now be viewed as a threat to victims of campus sexual assault. She plans to overhaul the campus sexual assault policy under Title IX.
DeVos, who has zero experience in any capacity in education, decided that the best thing she could do is to revamp an Obama-era guidance for colleges and universities on how to handle sexual assault cases that occur on campuses. She wants to better protect the perpetrators and not the victims.
DeVos announced the policy change during a speech at George Mason University’s Arlington campus on Thursday. She said that the Obama administration had good intentions when it elevated the issue of campus sexual assault in 2011, but that was not enough.
DeVos said, “Justice demands humility, wisdom and prudence.” “It requires a serious pursuit of truth.”
Um, so she’s a lawyer too? This is just another instance that shows the Trump administration could care less about doing the right thing. This is another heartless move to shame and blame the victims of sexual assault.
Title IX is working, but DeVos and Trump want to promote dangerous myths about rape and give discrimination a platform.
Donald Trump is on a mission to erase everything President Obama did during his eight years in office. Shameful and disgraceful at the same time.
The backlash has spawned the #StopBetsy hashtag:
When you thought it couldn't get worse than siding with white supremacists, now the Trump administration is siding with rapists. #StopBetsy
