Ex-cop Michael Slager faces to 19-24 years in prison for Walter Scott shooting death on April 4, 2015, following a traffic stop. Scott, who is black, was unarmed.
U.S. District Judge David Norton ruled on Thursday that Slager committed second-degree murder and obstruction of justice. Slager pleaded guilty to a federal civil rights offense.
Slager shot and killed Scott while he worked with the North Charleston Police Department. A witness video surfaced shortly after the shooting and showed Slager shooting Scott in the back as he ran away. The video also showed Slager dropping his taser gun next to Scott body.
