Donald Trump attacks Christine Blasey Ford after she accused Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault 36 years ago…by blowing up the Republican Party’s already shaky record with women. This is another self-inflicted wound on his part.

Trump tweeted: “I have no doubt that, if the attack on Dr. Ford was as bad as she says, charges would have been immediately filed with local law enforcement authorities by either her or her loving parents. I ask that she bring those filings forward so we can learn date, time and place!”

“The radical left lawyers want the FBI to get involved NOW. Why didn’t someone call the FBI 36 years ago?” he asked in a second tweet.

Um, the FBI would have told Dr. Ford to call the local police department because this was not a federal crime.Β Many people praised Trump for showing restraint and not attacking Dr. Blasey. It’s obvious he can’t help himself and is now setting, not only himself on fire, but the Republican Party weeks before the midterm elections by attacking a woman who claims to have been sexually assaulted as a teenager. That’s like saying the young men who accused Roman Catholic priests of sexual assault 40 years later should have told the police.

I was sexually assaulted by a woman when I was about eight or nine years old. I never said a word to my parents about it. One of my father’s closest friends tried to molest me a few years later. I managed to get away from him. I never talked about it to my mother until I was 48 years old. It’s not unusual for women to remain silent about a sexual assault.
