Former President Jimmy Carter says Donald Trump didn’t actually win the 2016 presidential election. He was put in office because Russia interfered and is “illegitimate.”

During a panel on human rights on Friday, Carter said: “If fully investigated, it would show that Trump didn’t actually win the election in 2016. He lost the election and he was put in office because the Russians interfered on his behalf.”

Historian Jon Meacham then asked President Carter if that means he’s an illegitimate president? “Based on what I said, which I can’t retract,” he responded.

Former Vice President Walter Mondale also slammed Trump: “He’s got something deep in him that is detestable.” He cited “his rhetoric, his harshness, his divisiveness,” then added, “Doctors tell me they think they recognize symptoms of psychological problems.”
