Former vice president Joe Biden says Donald Trump didn’t fool anyone with his “vacant-eyed mouthing of the words written for him condemning white supremacists” in the aftermath of the El Paso and Dayton mass shootings.
Biden, who gave a speech in Iowa on Wednesday, noted the similarities between El Paso shooter, Patrick Crusius, and Trump’s rhetoric. Trump “has fanned the flames of white supremacy in this nation,” Biden said.
“His vacant-eyed mouthing of the words written for him condemning white supremacists this week I don’t believe fooled anyone.”
Biden says says Trump offers the nation no moral leadership and “is more George Wallace than George Washington.”
“We have a problem with this rising tide of white supremacy in America. And we have a president who encourages and emboldens it … He says that guns are not the problem in mass shootings. That the issue is mental health. It’s a dodge. Hatred isn’t a mental health issue.”
