KANSAS CITY, Kan. —Law officials are investigating after seizing more fentanyl in the Kansas City, Kansas area.
On January 22, the Narcotics Unit of the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department seized more than 10,000 counterfeit prescription pills containing the powerful drug fentanyl.
The seizure, made during a routine search of a local shipping distribution center, has a public value of more than $100,000.
“We want dealers and suppliers to know that Kansas City, Kansas is not the place to do business,” said KCKPD Narcotics Unit Captain John Diaz.
“We are conducting routine screenings with assistance from k-9 drug sniffers at a variety of facilities, including those processing packets. In 2023.”
The seized pills are nearly identical to those distributed by pharmacies but contain potentially lethal amounts of fentanyl, a drug 50 times stronger than heroin and 100 times stronger than morphine. Once ingested or inhaled, an overdose can occur within seconds to minutes.
In 2022, Kansas City, Kansas had 174 drug overdoses and 40 were fatal. Most were related to fentanyl.
