WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – The Wichita Police Department said three people were injured following a shooting at a club on Saturday.
Wichita Police said at around 12:55 a.m., officers were patrolling the Old Town area when they heard several shots coming from inside Rock Island Live. The officers arrived and were greeted by “a large crowd walking out of business”.
A 22-year-old woman escaped with a gunshot wound to her arm. Officers carried her to safety and she was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Another victim, a 22-year-old man, was found inside the building with a gunshot wound to his upper body. He too was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition.
While officers were at the scene, another 22-year-old woman arrived at an area hospital with a gunshot wound to her foot.
A police investigation revealed that a woman was involved in a physical fight inside with several other women. She allegedly brandished a handgun and fired several shots.
Police said at this point they believed none of the injured people were involved in the altercation, but that they were bystanders.
A female suspect escaped but was found about a block from the club, according to police.
“In the summer and in July and August, the peak hours of the historic center, it could have been much worse. And I definitely know there were a lot more people in that club at times, so we’re lucky they weren’t fully booked,” WPD Sgt. Christopher Mains said.
