The Shockers are 3-5 in conference after a loss at home Wednesday, while the Pirates improved to 2-6 in America with their win earlier this week. Javon Small, ECU’s top scorer, is out with an injury for at least three weeks, so it will be up to Brandon Johnson to lead the squad. He is averaging 12.9 points and 9.0 rebounds while RJ Felton is averaging 12.0 points per game. Jaykwon Walton is scoring 13.3 points per game for Wichita State and Craig Porter Jr. is recording 12.1 points and 6.1 boards on an outing.

The Pirates put together a strong second half on Tuesday to come back to take a 76-66 victory over Tulsa. Johnson finished with 24 points and eight rebounds while Felton added 23 points.
The Shockers led by as many as 18 in the first half against Tulane on Wednesday night, but the visiting Green Wave stormed back and led in the final minute before Walton’s three-pointer with 10 seconds left in overtime. Tulane retired in the extra session for a 95-90 win. Walton had 24 points with six assists, Jaron Pierre Jr. had 18 points, Kenny Pohto had 17 points and Porter had 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Wichita State leads the all-time series with East Carolina 6-1, but the Pirates got their first win over the Shockers in Wichita on December 31. Johnson scored 17 points for ECU while Pohto had 21 points and 11 rebounds for Wichita State.
