SHAWNEE COUNTY – Law enforcement officials are investigating two suspects on multiple charges sought following a vehicle chase early Saturday.
Just after 4 a.m. Saturday, a K9 unit with the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop traffic on a stolen brown 1996 Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck near SE 29th Street and SE Wisconsin Avenue, according to Deputy Abigail Christian.
The driver refused to stop and gave up the pursuit. The chase continued through East Topeka and ended near SE 2nd Street and SE Alkire Street when the vehicle crashed.
The driver fled on foot. The passenger, Brandon L. Taylor, 24, was arrested at the scene without further incident.

At approximately 4:40 am, the driver, Cassy J. Thomas, 22, was taken into custody.
Thomas and Taylor were both booked at the Shawnee County Department of Corrections. Thomas is being held on the requested charges, including criminal interference with law enforcement. Taylor had three terms to his arrest and is being held on the requested charges of criminal escape or attempted avoidance, aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer, possession of stolen property, criminal interference with law enforcement, possession of methamphetamines and possession of drug paraphernalia
