A Lee’s Summit man pleaded guilty to his role in the armed robbery of a T-Mobile store in Kansas City. Derrick C. Davis, 22, faces 14 years in prison after pleading guilty to one count of robbery and one count of possession of a firearm in support of a violent crime. The armed robbery occurred on March 8, 2019 at the T-Mobile store located at 819 NW Barry Road in KCMO. Davis and another suspect in the case held a gun to an employee’s head. They stole several iPhones and iPads. In one of those iPads was a tracking device that triggered and transmitted GPS locations after they fled the company. Police officers were able to follow up on GPS locations and found the vehicle at Gregory Boulevard and Raytown Road. A chase was initiated and a bag was thrown in the area between 90th Street and Raytown Road. The vehicle was later discovered burning in Grandview, Mo. Hours later, Kansas City police officers found the two suspects walking in the area where the bag had been dumped. Vondell D. Walton, of Grandview, Missouri, is a co-defendant in the case. He pleaded guilty to a separate armed robbery of a T-Mobile store in Raymore. He awaits the sentence.
