Leavenworth man convicted of shooting another Kansas man in the leg
Antoine Courtney was convicted in less than 30 minutes by the jury handling the case

Antoine Courtney, 30, of Leavenworth, Kansas, was sentenced to 41 months for aggravated battery after a two-day trial last month. Courtney was found guilty of shooting another Kansas man in the leg outside a home in Leavenworth. On June 6, 2021, court documents showed Courtney accosted the victim outside a home on the 1000 block of Miami St. He is then believed to have pulled a gun on the victim and the parties began arguing over the ‘weapon. The gun discharged, shooting the victim’s leg shattering the bone and forcing him to undergo multiple surgeries. After shooting the victim, the defendant walked away from the area. It took the jury less than half an hour to convict. A previous trial was set for this case on October 3, 2022, but the defendant did not appear. “A person’s sentencing is determined by the judge and our sentencing guidelines set by the legislator. This is how this ruling was determined. “Said Leavenworth County Attorney Todd Thompson.” However, a crime like this caused our victim multiple surgeries and medical issues that will long outlast this sentence. We are grateful that she is well and for the help of the community that has secured this belief.”
