UPDATE
A Kansas City man charged with multiple felonies after attempting to flee authorities on Friday, January 27, 2023 was arraigned on Monday, January 30, 2023.
According to Pettis County Sheriff Brad Anders, Sedalia police attempted to stop a vehicle in the area of US Highway 65 and 16th Street on a silver passenger vehicle for equipment violations. The vehicle failed to yield to police as the driver traveled north. A Pettis County Deputy attempted to stop the vehicle in the Highway 65 and Swope Road area. The vehicle continued north at high speed, with little to no traffic, without giving way. The Missouri State Highway Patrol was able to deploy stop sticks in the Highway 65 and BB Highway area, deflating both passenger side tires. However, the vehicle continued north into Saline County and finally west on I-70.
As the vehicle continued west on I-70 at approximately 45 miles per hour with two flat tires, a second set of stop sticks were deployed by the Missouri State Highway Patrol who successfully removed the remaining side tires of the driver. Near the 65.2 mile marker on westbound I-70, the vehicle finally became completely disabled. The driver, 51-year-old Edward Ebert, was arrested. When officers cleared the vehicle, they spotted a woman and a 6-month-old baby in a booster seat. Both the woman and the child were later released from the scene.
Authorities found meth and drug paraphernalia in Ebert’s vehicle.
Court documents say Ebert was charged with misdemeanor charges of endangering the well-being if a child in the first degree, possession of a controlled substance, kidnapping in the second degree, resisting arrest and driving while suspended. The bond was set at $250,000 in cash or bond.
Ebert has a state of attorney hearing scheduled for 1:30 pm on Tuesday, February 7, 2023.
