Subsequently, she served for many years as both office and committee secretary for the Kansas State Legislature, developing deep friendships with many of her colleagues.
When she was a young mother, Sue volunteered to be the mother of a Boy Scout den. Subsequently, she served as an officer in both the National Association of Railway Business Women and the Santa Fe & BNSF Retirees Club. She also organized several women-only investment clubs.
She and Karl were longtime parishioners of St. Aloysius Church in Meriden. He loved a good puzzle about her, cheered on the KU Jayhawks, shared the successes and adventures of her three children, and the joy she received from each of her six grandchildren.
