Until Philadelphia and Kansas City, the NFL has all but settled on its draft order.
Things are changing rapidly with moves by coaches, rumors of various quarterbacks possibly going to places that could draft a passer in the first round, and with chatter about the free agency stove heating up. All of this affects the 2023 NFL Draft.
This latest postseason weekend mock draft reflects all of that before the next big step in the process: the NFL Combine.
Here’s the best guess idea for each team along with why the choice makes sense.
30 or 31 Philadelphia
Mock Draft 2023 Last Call: Isaiah Foskey EDGE Notre Dame
Will the Eagles be able to keep all the talent in play? With their second-round first-round pick, they’ll have a chance to become younger and even more versatile with a dangerous pass rusher like Foskey.
30 or 31 Kansas City
Mock Draft 2023 Last Call: Dalton Kincaid TE Utah
Travis Kelce could go on, but he’s only a few months younger than Rob Gronkowski. At 33 Kelce is still fine, and adding Kincaid as the next tight end receiving killer in the rotation — and giving Patrick Mahomes another option — would be terrifying.
29 New Orleans (from Denver)
Mock Draft 2023 Last Call: Zach Harrison DE State of Ohio
This 29th pick hangs around. She was from San Francisco, and then Miami, and then Denver. The Saints — who get this one in the Sean Payton deal — need a quarterback, but that may be a bit of a stretch for Tennessee’s Hendon Hooker. They also need to work defensively and Harrison is a stronger option than any tackle available.
28 Cincinnati
Mock Draft 2023 Last Call: Jaelyn Duncan OT Maryland
The offensive line was in place before wounds started to strike. Even so, the Bengals cannot invest enough in the protection of the 9.
27 Buffalo
Mock Draft 2023 Last Call: Brian Branch, Alabama
Like last year, Buffalo isn’t in dire need of something. Must have a guard and another wide receiver would be a plus, but those areas can be addressed later. Branch is a tough and versatile type of a security that would jump right into an already good situation.
26 Dallas
Mock Draft 2023 Last Call: Jordan Addison WR USC
The offensive coordinator change should mean one thing: more help for Dak. The Cowboys need elite talent on the other side of CeeDee Lamb.
25 New York Giants
Mock Draft 2023 Last Call: Jaxon Smith-Njigba WR Ohio State
The Giants have a knack for wide receivers that are better than meets the eye, but they don’t have a big No. 1 to worry the defenses. Wide receivers will be too tempted to pass up in the mid to late portion of the first round.
24 Jacksonville
Mock Draft 2023 Last Call: Anton Harrison of Oklahoma
The jaguars are in a nice spot. It’s a deep first round and they can go the best available player route if they choose. More help on the O line to protect Trevor Lawrence is the easy call if Harrison lasts that long.
23 Vikings of Minnesota
Mock Draft 2023 Last Call: Cam Smith CB South Carolina
Another year, another Viking team that needs more talent on defense. Horrible Step D needs an infusion of perspective to fix the big, big problem.
22 Los Angeles Chargers
Mock Draft 2023 Last Call: O’Cyrus Torrence OG Florida
Infrastructure can be sexy. Yes, the Chargers always seem to need offensive linemen, and yes, they always keep trying to fix the glitch. All right, they’re building something awesome.
21 Baltimore Ravens
Mock Draft 2023 Last Call: Quentin Johnson WR TCU
Wide receiver, wide receiver, wide receiver. Assuming Lamar Jackson is still a crow, Baltimore needs to give the boy someone dangerous to lunge at. The wide receivers will drop and the Ravens will have their pick.
Miami lost the pick which would have been 21
20Seattle Seahawks
Mock Draft 2023 Last Call: Siaki Ika DT Baylor
Seattle has the luxury of getting a quarterback switching franchises in the 5, and then getting a solid need player here. It’s Seattle, so think outside the box all you want, but a big tackle like Ika fills an obvious hole, even if it’s a little early.
19 Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Mock Draft 2023 Last Call: Bijan Robinson RB Texas
It’s too far for Robinson to fall. There’s a chance that someone who doesn’t really need a running back — think Patriots, Packers, or Texans — will decide to switch to game-changing talent. If he’s still here, Robinson becomes an instant fix for a rebooted franchise that will start working at least a little bit. Also, this is assuming that a formidable free agent quarterback will want to live the Tampa life.
18 Detroit Lions
Mock Draft 2023 Last Call: Christian Gonzalez CB Oregon
Assuming the Lions go after a pass rusher with the sixth overall pick, they can now pack on some weight. They will go with the best cornerback still available.
17 Pittsburgh Steelers
Mock Draft 2023 Last Call: Devon Witherspoon CB Detroit
There’s going to be a big corner here. Whether it’s Penn State’s Joey Porter Jr. or Georgia’s Kelee Ringo, Oregon’s Christin Gonzalez or Witherspoon, it’s a rich area to choose from.
16 Washington commanders
Mock Draft 2023 Last Call: Kelee Ringo CB Georgia
With all the talk about the need for a quarterback, don’t ignore how up-and-coming and talented Sam Howell is. The defense also needs more playmakers and there are a number of big angles on the board.
15 Green Bay Packers
Mock Draft 2023 Last Call: Brian Bresee DT Clemson
The Packers can get more pass catchers later. The defense has plenty of great young players and Bresee is a versatile enough option to work somewhere forward as part of a potentially loaded front wall.
14 New England Patriots
Mock Draft 2023 Last Call: Lukas Van Ness of Iowa
Flip a coin at Van Ness or Clemson DT Brian Bresee. The Patriots may need to find more offensive weapons — and Texas RB Bijan Robinson may be too tempting here, even with talent already in the Patriot backfield — but Van Ness fits the bill.
13 New York Jets
Mock Draft 2023 Last Call: Broderick Jones O.T. Georgia
The line needs an infusion of more talent. If Michael Meyer doesn’t drop here, the Jets will have a slew of good blockers to choose from.
12 Houston Texans (from Cleveland)
Mock Draft 2023 Last Call: Michael Mayer TE Notre Dame
Assuming Houston doesn’t trade picks to move to the 1, and assuming he goes with a quarterback with his first pick, here’s the chance of getting a potentially elite safety valve receiver.
11 Tennessee Titans
Mock Draft 2023 Last Call: Paris Johnson OT State of Ohio
The Titans need to acquire more talent on the offensive front. A wide receiver is a desperate must, but a strong lineman would be an immediate fix. There is ample receiver value later.
