One thing to know today
Nearly two years and 1,500 miles later, a cat who was reported missing in Miami, Florida showed up in Prairie Village last week.
Prairie Village Police say a resident called, saying an orange tabby cat was trying to enter his home near 75th and Windsor.
This orange tabby cat was found by one of our residents. The microchip has returned to an owner in Miami, Florida! Our animal control officer has contacted the owner in Miami and is working on getting them back together after two years of separation! Still trying to figure out she got here 🙂 pic.twitter.com/nKtNq9LHaP

When animal control officers scanned the cat for an implanted microchip, they discovered it was owned by someone in Miami.
The cat was reportedly missing in June 2021.
According to Sgt. Josh Putthoff with Prairie Village Police, the cat appeared to be healthy and in “good shape”.
Now, Great Plains SPCA in Merriam is working to reunite the cat with its owner.
Police don’t know how the cat got here, but Putthoff says the microchip was instrumental in getting him back to where he belongs. He encourages pet owners to get their pets microchipped and to keep the data linked to that microchip up to date.
“If every pet owner did this, we wouldn’t have to impound animals,” she said.
