Possible blizzard conditions for northeast Kansas later tonight

**WINTER STORM ALERT** – Clay, Cloud, Dickinson, Republic and Washington counties from 4:00 p.m. this afternoon through noon tomorrow.

**WINTER STORM ALERT** – Brown, Geary, Jackson, Marshall, Nemaha, Pottawatomie and Riley counties from 9:00 pm to 9:00 pm this evening through noon tomorrow.

**WINTER WEATHER ALERT** – Douglas, Jefferson, Lyon, Morris, Osage, Shawnee and Wabaunsee counties from 9:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. this evening through noon tomorrow.

Today will be cooler than we are used to with highs of 30 degrees North to 40 degrees South as clear and dry conditions will remain for most of the day. Winds will come from the northwest at 10-15 km/h. We will also have partly to mostly cloudy skies, so if you plan on going to the Super Bowl Parade in Kansas City, dress for cold, breezy conditions!

In the late evening, winds will begin blowing up to 35 mph as our next system moves through the area. It will start with a mix of rain and snow for most of the late evening in the Southeast counties, but it will likely be all snow in the Northwest as early as this afternoon. After midnight, the entire viewing area should see snow as temperatures rapidly drop into the lower 20s.

Thursday morning, temperatures will be warm in the lower 20s with low-single-digit wind chills and low teens. Snow totals will be lower in most Southeastern counties. Most of the heaviest accumulations appear to be in the northwestern counties. The snow could be heavy at times causing reduced visibility and travel hazards when coupled with our strong winds. There may be a sharp drop from higher snow totals to smaller amounts depending on where the heaviest swath of snow forms.

The snow is expected to end by mid to late morning on Thursday, and the highs will only reach the 20s to 30s. Winds will still be NW at 20-25 mph with gusts up to 30 mph so wind chills will continue to be an issue throughout the day.
