TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – Area crews split shifts today, and many returned to work Wednesday night at 7:30 a.m. tending the roads in preparation for an oncoming winter storm.
KDOT says the pretreatment depends on rainfall and they will continue to monitor the forecast.
Currently, forecasts show areas in northeastern Kansas receiving anywhere from one to three inches.
City manager Stephen Wade said crews had already started preparing for the oncoming bad weather.
“The snow is coming, so yesterday our city crews took to the streets for pre-treatment. They will come tonight so we can prepare the road for the morning. City will delay the start until 10am. We really want to make sure everyone is safe by taking our time to get to work and we would like to encourage all citizens to make sure they take some extra time tomorrow,” Wade said.
KDOT has also encouraged careful driving if you can’t avoid going outside.
This includes taking more time, standing further back, and going slow.
If possible, it’s best to stay home or delay your journey to allow the snowplows time and space to clear roads, ramps and bridges.
The City of Topeka delayed office hours until 10:00 a.m. Thursday, and Governor Laura Kelly also announced a 10:00 a.m. late start for non-essential state workers and office buildings in Shawnee County .
